10000% agree with Bixll on the bad character kid drafted by the Coyotes.
I actually brought up his case a few weeks before the draft already on here.
A 12-14y year old surely knows what's right/wrong -- and I do think that some actions should have consequences.
I assume Bixll is not happy about me agreeing with him - but I guess it's not a surprise considering my take on Keefe's antics while younger.
Personally I think that -- even if a kid has had a bad youth, that's not an excuse at all to target other people. Whether the kid's issues that led him to pick on other children are biologically rooted or merely a result of bad parenting -- I really don't care that much.
But then again, I do think that 12-16y olds that kill / rape other kids/people are let off too easily as well - I guess most of you don't agree with that either. - MaximusAurelius
Xavier Gutierrez, President and CEO of the Yotes and member of the NHL Executive Inclusion Council, obviously feels that this kid deserves a chance.
Miller sent a pre-draft letter to all 31 teams in which he apologized profusely for his past conduct as a teen.
Some feel that this type of behaviour means that this person should be effectively cancelled from pursuing a career in hockey. I think that's absolutely draconian and authoritarian.
If Miller was unrepentant and refused to authentically and legitimately acknowledge his vile behaviour as a 14 year old (and before), then I would agree that he shouldn't be allowed to play the game.
I remain unsurprised by your inflexibility and unwillingness to show any empathy or forgiveness.
Having said that, I'm certainly in no position to judge or condemn this kid - I don't know all of the facts or details of the case nor have I seen Miller interviewed. I'll have to defer to Gutierrez here. |

Well I don't have a choice.
We had to cut the old tree about a year ago because it was sick.
And the city has a rule that I have to plant a new one within a year.
I've been pretty busy with all that's been going on with COVID so I never got around to it.
Got a letter that told me I had until the end of the month to do it or I'd have to pay a penalty.
So yup. Planting a tree at the end of october. It basically looks like a big stick right now. - Scabeh
that is an excellent use of city bureaucracy

Nice sentiment from the Yotes. NHL does good sentiments. They even had some beautiful moments during the start up of the playoffs, promised to work with the Hockey Diversification Alliance of Evander Kane, Simmonds, etc and then when all the fuss was over never came through. |

That’s a pretty crazy rule.
We cut down a tree a few years back. Neighbours trimmed all the limbs off on their side. Turns out the tree was dead so it was going to be off kilter and leaning towards my backyard and I have young kids so we had to cut it down. $1000 later but we never had to replant another tree... |

Funny that you buy into something that even Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal refuses to run because it’s bullpoop and the only guy pushing it gets stung by Borat. |

You're right. We should be suspicious of these "sentiments". The Executive Inclusion Council has been around for a whole 4 months now and hasn't accomplished all the things. |

They don’t need a Council. They had a public moment which they played up but didn’t follow through. If the Council had serious backing from the owners they would have sent signals to the players’ group that they wanted to do something. |

Taleb has an interesting take that isn't too far from the mark (though I quibble here with the label "racist"). SBC's Borat satire wouldn't be nearly as accepted had it been born post-Wokeism. - mjones242
I'm not going to get too deep into it but to add a sprinkle of nuance: I think it's important to discuss the difference between 'racist' things that are borne out of actual prejudice (ie Minstrel shows)., and Borat which is basically SBC inventing a mythology and culture, and then calling it Kazakh, in order to dupe ignorant westerners. Most certainly inconvenient for Kazakhs, especially considering how big it got (like the time the Borat national anthem was played by accident when a Kazakh woman won in some sporting event in a pan-asian competition in Kuwait), but I don't think Kazakhs are known for caging their wives, banging their sisters, or incorrigible anti-semitism to this day.
Convenient for my entertainment tho. |
