they're completely different players, one should have no impact on the other.

one is a one-dimensional goal scorer with a poopty attitude and a crazy female dog wife

one is a solid 3rd line 2-way player who can step into the top six if required.

Is it Mike's goal to out talk everyone on the panel? Plus the pre show topics are becoming incredibly boring and irrelevant. Stick to hockey topics pls.

I agree with the comments here. Brown was an RFA who was almost certainly going to get signed anyhow, and was not being shopped. I don't think RFAs will have much impact on UFAs as they are on a completely different playing field. I don't think teams thought they were in on Brown, or they would have submitted an offer sheet. There's no sense to this...

No clue what Hoffman is gonna get....

There is realistically ONLY 4 teams that could fit him without dumping salary one way or another. Another 3 teams could add him, but it would get them really tight to the cap and affect them re-signing RFAs next year.

Think about that....13 teams NEED to lose salary, whether they have LTIR or not. 11 teams are extremely close to the cap after re-signing their RFAs this year with enough room for the season.

I have no clue how teams are going to dump salary because there are only so many teams that can fit it.

Brown is an adequate player but 3.6 seems steep for a player propperly slotted as a bottom 6 winger.

This will have no impact on Hoffman. I suspect Hoffman may remain without contract into the season, until someone gets foolishly desperate. Most GMs will want to avoid his incumbent distractions and suspect play.

projected over an 82 game schedule last season, he was a 20 goal 50 pt player, and he's a very very good 2-way player. 3.6 over relatively short term is a steal for Connor Brown. hell, Labanc had worst numbers and signed for almost 500k more.

literally every analyst, insider, expert has said that this deal is a bargain.

I personally find it a reasonable deal, especially since Brown can slot into the top 6 or the 3rd line and still be effective in both roles.

Why is there a comparison of these players at all? Brown was RFA heading to arbitration who is a decent middle six forward. Hoffman is UFA who seems to be holding out to get paid somewhere, somewhat understandably considering he is the best goal scorer available on the market this off season, despite his many "warts." Were there really teams salivating that Brown & the Sens would go down to the wire in hope that Ottawa would walk away from him if the arbitrator rewarded him too richly? And we're to believe that this has any bearing on a market for Hoffman? Or the dollarss he got for that matter? Come on. Different players, different situations. But I guess any attention is good attention!

exactly. if they had given him 5 mil, then absolutely it's a bad deal. but 3.6 for a guy who's either a decent 2nd liner or an exceptional 3rd liner, is a bargain every day.

AAV is a bit steep but it's only for 2 years. Also Ottawa is a cap floor team so that likely factors in a bit here too. Brown is a good player, good to have tenacious players like that on any team.

considering that the leafs generally pony up more than players are worth for them to sign, I could see Hyman getting 2 mil more than brown for similar production.

Connor Brown is a gamer. He lacks the finish of high end players but competes hard every shift.

With Batherson coming, I think he may have to shift to LW if he wants to stay in the top 6.

This deal is similar to the one that the Leafs signed Kapanen to last off-season. It comes down to preference of which player you'd rather have. Personally? I'd rather have Brown.

Maybe the Sens can ship him to Pittsburgh for a 1st Next season?

He's better to slide down the lineup. Wasn't very effective on the left side with the Leafs the times they tried. If he was, he'd be their 2lw and wouldn't have been traded in the first place

I like Connor Brown. Nice player. Third line player on a good team. But a good team should not be able to afford to pay 3.6m for a third liner in this market. There in lies the problem

3.6 is pretty standard for 3rd line players.

1st line - 8-10 range is fair
2nd line - 5-6 range is fair
3rd line - 2.5 - 3.5 range is fair
4th line - 1 mil is fair

I would argue that if you can't afford to pay a good 3rd line player 3.6 mil, you're team is poorly put together and/or you have a ton of overpaid players.

You pay your stars.
3.6 is a little rich for brown, but its the sens, they have to overpay everyone to keep them.
