GM of the year!

Who votes for that (seemingly quite dubious) award?

2 second rounders for Toews.
Breathing room? The 700K does little to secure Barzal and Pulock. What a huge phuck up by Lou. He better pull off a REAL cap dump before this turns into a total cluster-phuck.

They didn’t trade him for the 700,000 he made last year they traded him because they can’t pay him what he’ll get in arbitration which will probably be around 2.5 maybe 3 mil going forward. You’re right in the fact he has to move Boychuk’s contract somehow

Cap navigation still is a problem.

It boggles the mind how people post talking poop and don't understand. And I'm pretty sure Lou tried to move out guys before moving Toews.

I’m not rehashing my thoughts on this because I did that yesterday.

But. It’s laughable how people just think we can trade Boychuk or Leddy. If either of those guys were wanted, you think Toews would have been traded? Lou, himself, said he didn’t like that he had to make this trade. Considering Vegas got one 3rd round pick for Nate Schmidt, getting 2 2nd round picks for a RFA looking at a significant raise, I’d say he did alright, things considered.

It really is amazing to see the analytics fanatics/Lou haters (pretty well the same people anyways) torch Lou and the islanders for this move.

While I’m sure it’s a not a move the isles want to make, its one (thanks to Garth snow) you might have to.

I actually compare it to the Schmidt trade:
-both teams are cap strapped
-both teams ended up giving up a decent player for pennies on the dollar

If it wasn’t for toews being younger and having not having a contract in place the return is likely worse than 2 2nds.

As far as looking thin on the left side 2 years from now I see as a non problem. That’s a lot of time to remedy that or at worst it’s a problem you deal with then

Good point. But I think we could get a 3rd for Leddy. I agree with you that no one is taking Boychuk without an asset attached

I fully understand that. I'm right on all points. Fact remains, all we got was 700K in cap space, NOT what he may have cost AFTER arbitration. IF Lou hadn't mismanaged cap, and he did, Toews was certainly worth a decent forward who can play NOW, not some pick and hope draft picks.

now we have 2 2nd round picks to offer....

Lou should have bundled Toews and JB and called it even. I would have liked that much more than what we lost and what we're still stuck with, which leaves 1 FA still in jeopardy. Now we have to pray Barzal doesn't get a big offer sheet.

This is what happens when you overpay bottom 6 talent. You can never trade those deals.

You mean going deep in the playoffs? I agree. Much better to miss the playoffs like the Leafs. You guys have the winning formula!

I could see that. Columbus makes tons of sense but then he could risk having to play in Columbus if the Isles don’t match

Islanders followers are like a little version of Leafs followers. Except there are not as many know-it-all's and they are stuck living on Long Island.

Wow hold your horses, do you guys really think we got fleeced!?

SEBASTIAN AHO is ready to jump and he’s younger and Lou would never want to trade Toews, but to discredit his intelligence by flipping a 26 year old 4rth round pick for two seconds when he CANT pay him!?

He’s a genius and y’all need to trust Lou and let him take us to the cup, just sit down pipe down and enjoy the ride! Stop complaining, we are the brightest team in NY period. Give aho one year learning from defensive guru Barry Trotz and y’all will see by years end why this trade may have been the best thing to have happened. Mark my words.

Not one person mentions the expansion draft next year in this trade? So all of you that wanted to keep Toews are ok losing one of Pulock, Pelech, and Mayfield? .. If you want to protect 4 then you can only protect 4 forwards... who u allowing them to take?

This move was based on a lot of things.. not just the cap. It was based on Leddy played better in the playoffs than Toews..especially in the last series. Toews while not having a ton of experience is Hardly a kid.. 3 years at Quinnipiac and 2 1/2 in B-port took most of his young years.

As far as only getting 2 Second round picks for him. Vegas just got a 3rd round pick for Schmidt.

It's laughable that you don't think Leddy is tradeable.
