The only challenge with what you are attempting to do is that until you determine who all the available players are it is difficult to determine who to take from each team. While it is hard to knock selecting Henrique, what if the defenseman pool is shallow from other teams? Then a guy like Shattenkirk may rise to the selection. It also will need to factor in Cap Hit...SHattenkirk is a $3.9M Cap Hit while Henrique is a $5.8M Cap Hit. That nearly $2M difference could be important in terms of other players teams make avaialable.
I think it will be interesting to see how you work through all this...I just think maybe you should have 31 posts about who is available and then a 32nd post about who is taken from each team. Need all the info before you start picking.
Good luck. |

A very good point. I will say I do have a general layout for each team, looking at who I expect to be available and for which teams I am expecting to select forwards or defensemen.
We will be doing a few of these as the year progresses, eventually where I will also open up the floor to trades to prevent the selection of certain players. This first one is all about seeing who may be available.

Basically playing out Franchise Mode in NHL, sounds like fun, looking forward to see it play out. I would be tempted by Larsson if he continues to progress this year. |

You want big money guys with 1 year left in their deals to help you get to the cap floor for year 1 so you can be a major Free Agent player in the following offseason
Henrique for 3 seasons tying up 6 Million is the WRONG move. You take on Henrique (which is doing the Ducks a favour) if they throw in a sweetener
Take on someones trash in exchange for a pick or a top prospect
It's not hard
The right pick here is Shattenkirk, who is a top 4 defenseman and on a cheap reasonable contract and most importantly, would be considered tradable at some point |

I’d personally take Shattenkirk as well as he’s today’s NHL offensive defenseman. You need that PP qb as well and from a quick glance around the other teams I don’t think there is another one available that touches his offensive upside. And with Henrique as your top line center expecting 40 pts. Your setting yourself up for failure. He’d be an Ok 2 for a new team but at his current pace is more of a 3c imo. At the end of it all though you can’t go wrong with either as a starting point. |

Henrique would be a good pickup for Seattle.
Gonna be interesting to see how this expansion draft simulation plays out. |

I feel like RAKELL or HENRIQUE would be my selection for the Kraken. Both bring offensive scoring to the lineup, with Henrique excelling in zone entries and puck possession.

Rakell will be protected, he and gibson are the two guaranteed guys. I agree with the list of protected guys but i would take larsson for sure. Henrique is going to be a year older and there’s no shortage of centers To draft. |

There are a few names around the league that I am eyeing for that top PP spot as well as to provide some offensive numbers on the backend.
Also who is to say Henrique will be the top centre by the end of all of this? |

Much too difficult to project picks til all protection lists are in.
D will be most important & my guess the focus. From there depending on what C’s are available will follow & only picked if not up against D. There won’t be any 1C available but passable 2C’s might be available. Henrique might be the pick but depends on if Shattenkirk is the option if D is slim pickings. |

Do they have to protect Getzlaf? He is a UFA after this year but ussually the draft is before contracts expire and FA starts. So technically isn't he sill under a NMC until free agency day? If that is the case wouldn't the Ducks have to auto protect him based on his NMC? |
