Very True
Now from Vegas Side, is Pietrangelo worth 3 Million a year more than Schmidt while includes a 36 and 37 year at 8.8M- Also seems like Vegas has Theodore for first PP Unit.

Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg are usually the top three teams on everyone's no-trade list.

Vancouver is a world-class city with a bunch of international flavour and culture. Calgary has a nice pedestrian bridge and a giant blue ring.

The Murray miss can be seen as a negative but Vancouver got a lucky by doing nothing all off season. Their team got worse until this fluke happened.

Interesting perspective but also a bit misleading.
''Yes, Schmidt costs more money than Tanev. Yes, he is signed for an additional year''

Schmidt costs SIGNIFICANTLY more (a 3rd round pick and 5 x 5.95 = 29.75 million)
Tanev (4 x 4.5 = 18 million)
Not sure 11.75 million and a 3rd round pick can be shrugged off in this player comp!
Tanev shoots right which was important to the Flames.
Both players have an injury history.

Lets let time make the call on who missed the boat.

^ dont forget to add the cost of the player that replaces Tanev if/when he gets injureed.. he was lucky last season.. but next season he might not be so lucky

yes.,.. and he said that there is a difference of almost $12 million

But i believe Tanev has been injured more than Schmidt

The price point definitely depends on context. If you have a ton of cap room an extra 1.5 million is nothing.

After bringing in tanev we have just under 6.5 million in cap space with mangi yet to resign and still short 3 skaters of a full roster after that. Unless we were to dump Derek Ryan’s contract icing a lineup with Schmidt’s contract instead of tanev is near impossible.

Also adding tanev to the back end gives us a true shutdown D, something that was missing from our D core before the signing. I can’t guarantee we will go further but teams that aren’t well rounded with different types of players don’t tend to win the cup

The over/under for both of them is probably around 65 games. Schmidt gets hurt every year as well.

Todd Cordell: Calgary Flames miss the boat on Nate Schmidt trade
- ToddCordellCGY

Good read as always Todd. Dev's fans sure miss your efficient/articulate writing style.

My guess is that his limited no-trade clause limited his teams to just Vancouver. If not, every team in the league missed the boat on this bargain. Schmidt is a fantastic D on a solid contract. Jets/Devs/Flames all need a player like this on their squad.

Ya access to the mountains in under 45 minutes is not noteworthy. Where are you even from hunk?

I'm from Calgary. Have you been to Vancouver? Grouse "Mountain" is in the city, and they have plenty of other great outdoor spots in the city, and Whistler is a short, scenic drive away.

Calgary is fine, but if you have no connection to it and you're super-rich, you'd never pick Calgary over Vancouver unless you want to own a ranch.

The biggest advantage Calgary has over Vancouver is you get to see the Sun during the winter.

I mean, yeah, I like living here, but I'd trade -30 and our "lake" communities for rainy winters and summers by the ocean any day. That said, the mere presence of the Canucks turns me off of Vancouver in its entirety.

Have you ever lived in Vancouver?
I love the city, spent 4 years there and the rest in Calgary. Year one, Calgary had a brutal winter and Van, was well Van. When its sunny, there are few cities that compare, anywhere. WHEN its sunny. 6 degrees and perpetual rain with a 50' ceiling wears on the nerves. I loved living there but I prefer the sun, even for the 10 days its -30.
And Whistler is a great tourist spot, makes Banff look quiet.
Its a lifestyle city but there is no way i could afford to live there save moving inland and why bother. I could drive from Calgary in about the same time as Abbotsford and the commute to West Van (yes an exaggeration) but not far from...

That's the point. We're talking about the super-rich. If we're talking about people who actually have to pay attention to their bank accounts, it's an entirely different conversation.

And I've never lived there, but most of my family does or lives on the Island.
