I don't see this being the end of what they are doing.
He is a left shot. They have a stated need for a right shot d.
Also, 3mil? That doesn't leave a lot in the bank for Myers and Patrick.

There is another shoe and it just hasn't dropped.

Amazingly, not all Flyers fans want their team to blow their cap space on marginal free agent upgrades when the smart play is to let your young players take those roles. But nice try E5

Very Flyers-esque move. Mediocre-at-best player signed for 2x what he’s worth

Waiting another 4 years to start caring about Detroit sounds like fun.

This has to be a move to set up for a bigger trade, maybe moving Sanheim or Myers out for a forward otherwise signing Gustafsson makes no sense... it does nothing to address the right shot minute eating "D" man they said they needed to replace Nisk on Provorov's top pairing

1 year deal makes sense. This way they don’t have to expose a young defenseman like Myers at the expansion draft. Gus will be able to walk. He’s nothin special, but it’s a perfectly acceptable one year stop gap while York and Zamula mature.

He’s just a patch job while they improve from within, and it doesn’t cost an exorbitant amount.

Exactly. Bad for the current season, good for the future.

There is no need to make a deal for the sake of making a deal. Flyers are not contenders this season and other than AP, no one would have made them so.

Do the sensible thing and look ahead.

And some flyers fans hate when a GM sits on his butt doing nothing during FA, then wastes 3 million on a guy who’ll get piles from sitting under AV

Good for you, Mr. Holmgren. Every other team in the division got better, except us. I will actually watch, but with realistic expectations. Sadly, this franchise will go one more year without a Stanley Cup because of their poor management. They've gone from signing over the hill 37 year olds to a completet trust the farm system approach. Neither one completely works. I'll watch, but again, realistically. Too many bad contracts on this team.
