Hi Bill! Sorry that you’re hard work was lost! Kind of apropos for the way 2020 has been going, eh?! Anyway, thanks for all your insights this year! Keep it coming...we need it!

Hate when that happens.

Worse when it happens for one of your kid’s school work. The tears... Google drive is our friend. This year might kill me. I wasn’t born to be a teacher.

Looking forward to Bill's thoughts on Pitlick, and how he may or may not fit on the roster next season. Of the 3 UFA forwards, I'd prefer Pitlick back over Thompson & Grant, but with the other 2 being centers they may be viewed as better fits for what the team needs. I'm pretty sure Pitlick has played some center in his career, but is it realistic to go into the season with him as the the 4C? Wouldn't want them to spend money to bring Pitlick back only to have him be a 13th forward simply due to numbers at the wings. Obviously having depth is great, but don't want to overpay for it.

Pitlick's play was eye-opening, I didn't know he was such a good skater and such a good decision maker

Fair enough. I'm not saying Pitlick is anything special, just that I wouldn't mind having him back and would think he could be resigned at a reasonable price.

Couts & Hayes as top two centers. I'm not putting NoPa in any projected lineup until it's confirmed he's available. So I guess that means Laughton at 3C due to the numbers at LW with Lindblom back. But who's 4C if none of the UFAs are brought back? Bunnaman? Frost? Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't think that 4th line minutes & deployments would be beneficial to Frost's development. But if there's no AHL season, then why not use him. At least he would be playing meaningful hockey, and he could do worse than playing between Raffl & Nak.

I guess I'm just trying to envision what it might look like down the middle if NoPa can't play, and neither Thompson or Grant are resigned.

I like Pitlick. Just not needed at this time is all. There are internal options who need a chance; pitlick types are always available down the line.

The other 2 offer no value to me and shouldn't be under any consideration to be brought back.

Sorry to hear about losing your work, Bill. Believe me, it's our loss. Thanks for what you do.

I've had it happen to me and it cost me a $30k commission on a big bid back in the mid 90's. Word is better these days, but it was bad back then. Autosave wasn't really autosave as I learned the day before a huge bid that I'd have won was due. Computer blue screened and a couple of hundred pages of work was scrambled into symbols and characters. Learned to always save to a floppy disk. We used those back in the old days.

Bill,

Any chance Mikka Koivu could be an option for that 3c role or will he likely get priced out. He was there in Minn with Fletcher so there is familiarity. Would he make sense on something like a 1 year 2.5 million deal? At 37 i can't see much more for him. And if Patrick is healthy maybe he can some wing.

He would probably be an ok safety blanket. Flyers don't have $2.5mil without making a move.

How long are we going to wait for one of these kids to step in? I feel like we talk about Frost, Rubstov, Bunnaman, among others every year and the most we get is a short stint from a couple.

Just bc of the fletch connection I could see a 1 year 1 mil type deal. That is if we do not retain any of the ufa s.

And agree with whoever else posted it. Pitlick would be the one out of the three I would consider retaining. Especially for the fourth line. All depends on the health of Patrick though and what happens in the ahl.

Yes roster spots for the kids. Oscar takes one. Patty is a question mark. So I could see them wanting a vet for the 12 th or 13th forward spot. And I’d the schedule is condensed. I think there will be a good rotation like this past year of kids rotating in and out. Coaching staff working with them to improve.

I didn't realistically expect Frost to make the team his first year pro. I mean sure I hoped he could step in and do well, but people had to know he would need at least a little AHL time.

Edit: I was surprised Farabee stuck. I think he could have probably used some AHL time too though, if only to try to get stronger on the puck.

I’m certainly not opposed to promoting from within and giving one of those guys a shot. But can’t help but wonder what AV & his staff will think of those guys since their AHL season was stopped months ago. Have those guys been playing any meaningful hockey since then? I honestly don’t know. I would love for one of them to come into camp and take the job.

Yeah. Guessing if he wanted to play another year it would be with a top team for one last run. So can’t see Montreal. Maybe only Tampa Boston vegas Avs type teams.

Raff koivu NAK would be an interesting 4 th line. He is still an ok two way player. Lessen the minutes and hope he can take advantage of playing against lesser players.

I will be disappointed if Frost does not make the team this upcoming season.
