The 94 SCF between the Rangers and Canucks is the best SCF I've ever seen. I never saw any before 1982. Pavel Bure was unreal in those playoffs. So was Brian Leetch. - gergeswillems

My Dad is a Rangers Fan. Hated the Leafs when the Leafs traded for his favourite Ranger Andy Bathgate. But Messier became his favourite Ranger very quickly. |

PPP had a nice article on Petro.
It would be a but of a gamble but if you are a team that can structure the contract the way he wants and can move some cap out you improve your team by a (frank) load.
a 2nd pairing and a 3rd pairing would help but statistical evidence suggest having a top 10 D in the league makes your D good. Pair him with a 3rd pairing D and you still get a top pairing.
It is a no brainer. Him and Holl would still be a fantastic pairing. He won the cup with Joel Edmondson as his most common partner. - Santo_44
He (Petro) won the cup because of ROR and Bennington.. and that's it.. Not because he turned into some kind of monster D man.
He was there all the years of Jake Allen and before ROR and they didn't win squat... Squat..
Go to Bennington and add arguably one of the best 2 way forwards in the game.. and get a cup...
Yes Petro is a very solid upgrade for Leafs .. no doubt, but not for 9 mil and 7 yrs.. |

That's just because you were wrong about him pre-draft.. Quite sure you said something along the lines of: "typical big player that destroys junior opponents due to his size, but when playing in NHL he won't be able to leverage that advantage. Mediocre skating and hands of stone means he should not be picked in 1st round. Overvalued." |

Stoked over that one . Figured a high second at most.
And while you're here...I haven't watched much of the play-offs, but have to say I enjoy watching Kucherov handle the puck and set-up plays. Reminds me a lot of Pavel Datsyuk in the way he carrires himself. Wish he was a Leafer too.

Haha i was expecting that answer.
I think he's a bit better than that. |

23 year old 3rd (if generous)/4th liner. I dunno, spatso and Button had him in the top-5 which was what really angered me having actually seen him play. |

I still can't figure out how Kucherov was drafted in the 2nd round. Great pick by Yzerman. Yeah Kucherov has some Datsyuk in him. The high hockey IQ and elusiveness. Kucherov plays with more of an edge. Datsyuk was mentally tougher. Kucherov can be rattled at times. Datsyuk was like a cyborg. Both great players. 👍 |

Well you know...he's Russian...and he ONLY set the record for the U18 tournament scoring above all of our favourite superstars...but he was in the MHL and 5'10 or something.
it's like when people wonder why he's a (frank)ing punk ass female genitalia in the playoffs and spears/elbows guys as if he hasn't been that guy since he was 16. |

I recall when people used to tell me the Red Wings would never win a Stanley Cup with Russian players. They didn't have any actual insight of their own. They were basically just ripping off Don Cherry. |

but you whiffed on nylander
The problems begin obviously with two things, his play style and his defensive game. Some would call him “soft,” which is a very accurate description. This is not a player who will grind things out or you want out there when the game is on the line and you’re protecting a 1 goal lead. He’s a high octane scorer and playmaker who will dazzle with the man advantage. Sometimes he stays on the perimeter too much or hangs onto the puck looking for the perfect play rather than getting it deep. Two things that the modern NHL can punish. The potential for Nylander is so high, it truly is, but there is risk.
