Mike, O'Rourke is a nice pick ....at 44.
I don't see Dubas picking a safe d'man over some of the high skilled/ high IQ'd forwards that are left on the board.
Jarvis and/or Bourque both scream TML. Should be lots of safe D types available at 44. - The Law
yeah, that's pretty f'n far from best player available... |

Bourque is talented but a bit in undersized... I don't know if we need more Nick Robertson types..

There are always cheap pieces to be had that can fill gaps. DeMelo, for example, who everyone* seems to like was only making 900k this year.
*mr.sir and Max excepted. - mjones242
I was thinking about being able to sign Hyman and Lehtonen (if he becomes what we expect) next year and Rielly, Sandin and Liljegren the year after. Gaps like that. |

I assume he's read too much into the Sandin pick.
Sandin had way more upside offensively then O'Rourke and this draft is loaded with Dubas types (smallish, high skilled, high IQ forwards). |

Babcock?
Our toughness is our powerplay - PatC80
yes, that was it.
hasn't panned out well ...
(and at the time i thought it was a strange thing to say by babcock)
edit:
the comment was a bit broader:
"You look at our personnel; you look what we've got,” Babcock said. “We are what we are, our toughness is our power play.
and this was Dubas:
“We want to have skill, we want to be fast and we want to be competitive. I don’t really think the way the league is going that having someone who can come in and fight or anything like that is going to change that. We’ve got a way we want to play and we’re going to carry on with that. In the end, people will judge whether it was effective.”

RHD is what the Leafs need imo
Hey, I know nothing about this upcoming draft class |

Did you expect Babcock to say the Leafs were a bunch of wussies!
Of course not which is why he said that. |

reading it back completely, I now remember that I always thought it was a form of hidden criticism :
"Dubie boy won't give me any players but wussies, so I guess we'll have to accept that and try to make other teams pay for their liberties by scoring on the PP" |

this article compares similar elite D from age 30 on.
based on what he did this past season and finding all the other D who did what he did.

It's projecting that Pietrangelo will not age well, has him below average for 6 seasons.. I don't know how I feel about that. |

For me drafting outside of the top 5-10 is all about BPA. That player immediately becomes an asset with a value so maximize that assets value.
For example Robertson may be too much of the same but, as an asset, his huge year has clearly pushed his value up. |

Babs just didn't like Dubas... I recall Babcock not being a fan of the Muzzin trade either |

that was the one I summarized earlier.
I think the opinion was that AP's "projection" is that he's got 3 elite years followed by 3 top pairing years left in the tank.

To be honest, I'm not sure if Hyman will be worth his next contract. I like him a lot but I think the Leafs can probably find a cheaper alternative.
I doubt Sandin and Liljegren will see significant pay increases in the next few years. If they do end up deserving it, that's a great problem to have.
Rielly is definitely a big question mark.
There may be opportunities to go with a 1a/1b goaltending tandem on the cheap. Presumably, if the team is playing more defensively responsible, and you have a monster top pairing, you won't need Georges Vezina in net. (it's also one of the reasons I really, really want the Leafs to draft Askarov...)
I'm thinking I'd rather have Petro than 2 middle pair(ish) d-men who are probably going to be paid too much with too much term and may demand a NMC/NTCs that handicap your ability to move them. |

It doesn't show but ..
Dark blue = elite
Medium blue = top pairing
Light blue = solid but declining
Orange = poop balls |

Abosolutely. But there's like 17 of these charts circulating out there and they all show things differently.
We need the Dubas/Pridham chart. |

oh ok, that makes more sense... Shows a decline in the 2 final years.. So, it would definitely be worth going after him if they can get 5 really good years out of him |
