Is it off the table that blueger takes another step forward and plays third line center? I think McCann blueger and Tanev could be difficult to play against

Ehh.. Pretty sure Horny is a huge part of the PP and I feel like we've shown plenty of stats in the comments section to show the stark difference between Horny in and out of the lineup when it comes to the peeper.

McCann is the most affordable option given the hole Rutherford dug with those aforementioned contracts. The great McCann concession.

Again, Horny is maybe overpaid by $1M but he produces at even strength and on the PP.

Staal isnt in it to win. He blocked Pittsburgh and every other cup contender. Why are we lamenting not getting a guy who has no interest in pursuing a cup? Thank goodness we missed out, result would have been brassard like.

Penguins don't have the cap space for what Domi will probably get and JR is pretty much in love with Poulin.

They just don't have anybody that can take Hornies place.

Agree on Staal. Why even mention him? He blocked most or all contenders because he didn't want to move.

Honestly we probably should do that if it were an option.

I'm not convinced that JR's convinced he's their 3C option or his words would have been different.

At this point I'm still of the opinion that if McCann is 3C they should move Tanev to 3rd LW and use the free space to sign a really good 4th liner.

- Rinosaur

You keep trying to draw me into this one, but we're probably not going to agree.

It's not that I don't think Tanev can play the role, I agree he likely can although I'm not sure that adds enough offense. It admittedly would be fun to see Tanev and Hornqvist together.

I just think the role Tanev has now is more important and the Blueger line is a bigger priority for me even though I want to improve the other bottom 6 line. And while Blueger and ZAR had nice seasons, Tanev has now excelled in this role on 2 different teams playing 2 different positions so he has the best track record.

IF (that’s a big if) we can move Horny a guy I’d like in that 3rd line is Jesper Fast.

Poulin - McCann - Fast

Of course they should, but how is JR making the cap space? We both know what won't happen.

Very true, RW has always bern in denial about Hornqvist's PP impact. I think they score at about half the rate when he's off the ice compared to when he's on.

Sure the PP wad fine before him, but they had Kunitz. Again RW not giving credit to the net front guy by saying they have all the same guys. They don't have a guy that can step into that role.

I will agree they can spend the money for Hornqvist better, but they will need to replace him. If they could snag a guy like Maroon (may be others, he's the one that stands out to me), they could let Hornqvist go.

Of course working around his NTC and finding a taker would be easier said than done.

It's not going to be anyone's top option, but I don't think it's impossible. With their aspirations though, I'd expect someone else to get first crack.

RW is going to bring up Staal all year, isn't he, despite the fact there might not have been anything GMJR could have done if he didn't want to come here.

I do not think it would be fun to watch Tanev and Hornqvist on the same line. Those two skill sets do not pair. Hornqvist needs a lot of skill on his line and pucks on net to function period. Tanev either needs to be the third wheel on a scoring line or the energizer bunny in a grinding line. Hornqvist doesn’t help him at all. Together they’d be a real mediocre dump and chase line.

I think Tyler Ennis is a weirdly overlooked player. I really think the Pens should take a flyer on him. I know he doesn't fit the speed or youth movement, but he drives play and puts up numbers at a very reasonable price.

He's a guy myself and a few others have mentioned as well.

You never know who you can sign, but we could probably get Fast and Maroon for less than Hornqvist and Simon. And then if Poulin forced his way on, we'd have a really nice problem to figure out.

Anyone know if Staal had PIT on his no trade list? While him being the 3C makes sense, is this an example of it simply not being possible?

I admittedly was mainly thinking of how Hornqvist and Tanev together would drive other teams nuts. So it's more entertainment value.

They'd probably actually be very good at dump and chase as much as people hate that style. How good of a line they'd be, that I'm not sure of.

If the Penguins could move JJ but the cost was Jarry, should they do it? Would you? I don't think I would. As much as it pains me to watch JJ eat up minutes, i want to see Murray in a PENS jersey even less....
