I would hate it for that exact reason. But when Jarry inevitably goes down for two months (cause Penguins), adding MAF is less distasteful than DeSmith starting 20 of 24.

I mean if Flower came back here he’d have to know he’d be the number 2. I don’t think it’d be an issue. I just don’t think he’d want to/we could afford it if he did.

Fleury will get traded, He won't be bought out and Vegas shouldn't need to hold back more than 2 Million to find a taker

Not Sure I want Jarry at 3 Million and a 5 Million Dollar backup (or vice versa)

I also can’t see him getting bought out. That’s just too much dead cap for too long for Vegas.

I don't think it would be as bad as RW makes it out to be if Jarry struggles. And if it was, who really cares what the peanut gallery is saying?

That being said, as much as I love Fleury, I don't want him back, even if they gave him to us for a 7th with 50% retained. All goalies have an expiration date and I think Fleury is getting close to his. Also, not a fan of getting the band back together.

I disagree. I think Fleury is a below average goalie at this point and even $5M for two more years is too much.

Murray + Johnson for Dubnyk + Dumba?

Pens can then decide to deal Dubnyk (more likely) or DeSmith either for a pick or prospect, with the other on backup.

MIN will have much better offers than that. Murray and Dubnyk are about equal all things considered, so the other parts of that equation are way off.

Here's a thought:

Ride Jarry and DeSmith the first couple of months and see how it goes.

Use the cap and salary savings to get a STUD winger and/or 3C (will need to trim elsewhere and not sure what they are planning to do with McCann). Right now we are $9M under the cap with McCann, Simon, and Jarry as RFAs. I would love to have $1.5M more from a Bjug buyout vs retention this season.

If Jarry/DeSmith aren't cutting it or if one of them gets hurt, then trade for a goalie mid-season/TDL.

How are they equal? Dubnyk is 34yrs old, end of career. Murray is 26 and was a major force in winning two cups.

Dubnyk is on an expiring deal whereas Murray is going to want a multi-year deal for at least the same rate, probably more, in a flat cap league for at least the next two years. Both are playing at roughly the same level regardless of Cups won 3+ years ago.

Self-correction: Almost agreed, it doesn't even compare to the MASSIVE difference in value between Dumba and Johnson, but I wouldn't value them the same.

Yeah, I know, Murray is more valuable, but not by much and I don't think the return will be as much as people think. Maybe I'm wrong and someone gives us something really good for him, but I think his return is about a 3rd round pick / 3rd line forward / 4/5 D, along those lines. Murray represents a pretty big gamble by the team that acquires him, though.

Fleury, Fleury, Fleury!

I doubt he gets bought out, so probably a moot point, but 10000% bring him back if he is half retained or bought out.

He and Jarry can Duke it out and let the best guy win. We are looking at a condensed schedule of hockey this year. Backups will have to play a lot.

Imagine a condensed schedule where Jarry gets injured and you have Desmith and...??? Sharing starts for 3 weeks or a month. The Pens might not make the playoffs.

All of this not to mention, the Pens haven't done poop since Fleury left. It has been like they lost part of their soul.

I mentioned JJ for Fleury straight up a few weeks ago, just do it already.

I don't see a lot of teams lining up for a 36 year old, clearly declining goalie, who makes 7 million.....even if Vegas ate 2. there are multiple UFA goalies who are younger and better (or at least as good) who could be had for less. there are also a poop ton of goalies who will be available via trade who are better, younger, and cheaper.

I don't think you can look at that trade as goalies and d-men, look at it in terms of "valuable assets" and "cap dumps"

dumba value > murray value

dubnyk value >>>>>>>>> Johnson value

I think this is what people call a massively ignorant and biased homer post.

Cmon... the leagues worse Dman and the goalie you don’t want for the best available, top 4 dman on the market and a solid 1b cost controlled tender?

Worse than high; ignorant

For nostalgia sake I of course wold love to see Fleury finish his career out here and I honestly believe he's still a capable goalie with maybe one more decent year left in the tank, but I agree with RW that it could continue the goalie distraction.

If MAF was actually bought out then he'd be getting a huge chunk of change. If he wanted to come back to the Pens I could see him signing at a very low amount, if already bought out. If those two things were the actual case I'd have no problem with it.

Give him 3 mill per and Jarry 2.5 per.

maf/jarry combo 5.5 mill cap hit wow
