No. No they shouldn't.

I think they should, unless they target a UFA defenceman.

While I like the defense prospects, it will be good to have someone with a few years experience on D besides Doughty.

I think they will acquire someone via trade. They have a ton of mid-round draft picks that they can use to target someone. I suspect it will be Nick Leddy from the NYI. If the Isles had been eliminated sooner, the trade probably would have happened already. Arthur Staple (Journalist that covers the NYI for The Athletic) reported last month that Leddy was likely on his way out to clear cap space for Barzal's extension, and that his trade value was a 3rd round pick.

I agree that they won't stand pat and go with all rookies, but there aren't really any good UFAs on the market, and Hutton on the top pairing is not a good idea. I watched every game that he played in last season and don't think he was as good as other people have made him out to be.

They might take him off waivers, but they wouldn't trade anything of value for him.

I don't disagree. I'm just saying the Kings aren't going to give up anything of value for him since there are better options that can be had for next to nothing.

Sign for $2M. If he plays well flip him at the trade deadline to a contender looking for a depth piece.

Interesting....

I did not know Hutton was on the first pairing... I would think that he would be on the second pairing and have someone else learn by playing alongside Drew.

That's what they usually do, but Bjornfort got sent down after a month and Forbort (Doughty's partner for the last couple of years) was injured for the first half of the season. There wasn't much option but to play Hutton with Doughty. It probably won't happen again, though, since Bjornfot will presumably stick with the big club and be Doughty's partner this upcoming season.

I wouldn’t resign Hutton. With the flat cap wait and see if a deal could be made.
