Anthony Travalgia: It sure sounds like Torey Krug won’t be back in Boston Set to become a UFA, has Torey Krug played his last game in Boston? Sure sounds like it.

Funny how Detroit is portrayed as the best option out there, but trust me, the Habs will be in the hunt.....along with a bunch of other clubs. Krug is talented, and will get paid this time around, but not by Boston.

how much do you think it takes to bring krug to sign a new contract?

Is 6 years X 6,5 getting it done in the context of the flat cap? Can't the bruins afford that?

Bruins should be able to afford that.

Would not go any higher though. Sure Krug has gotten lots of points on PP. But his size is a detriment. And even-strength he's not as strong. Playoffs have shown you need a combination of size and speed. Krug does not bring the size.

Would rather have another team overpay for him if he's looking for > 6.5M

A good PP quarterback is certainly a need for the habs and I would take him at that cap hit and term. But I guess that if he is planning to leave the bruins it's because he wants more than that and then I prefer we look at other options.

I looked a bit at your teams' salaries. Marchand at 5m per year is an awsome contract.

He will sign a 7yr x 7.5 mil deal. I wonder if Boston looks to tear down and sell off Marchand, Bergeron? It’s coming sooner or later

Don't be ridiculous, Bergy will be a Bruin his entire career and likely Marchy too. Why would we tear down? Some tweaks and we can easily still compete. We got ousted by arguably the best team in the league right now and other than the lopsided loss it was a close series that "could" have gone either way (two OT losses). We have some weaknesses when matching up against bigger teams like the Lightning like our D-men as a whole are too small.

The problem is the Bruins bought in to the "the league is moving away from the Big Bad Bruins" mold and going faster and more skilled and that is what we did. That works fine in the regular season when facing a bunch of other teams that did the same thing. But during the regular season, what teams have we had problems with? The Caps, Lightning, etc...bigger teams. Come playoffs, we have a hard time competing against the teams that kept the Big Bad Bruins mentality (Blues, Lightning, etc.). Look at the cup winners...they have been predominantly "larger" teams that can wear down an opponent (Blues, Caps, Kings and to a lesser extent the Pens). If Miller is in the lineup against the Blues, maybe things are different. With Chara (really showing his age), Carlo (no snarl but good size), and McAvoy our only D-men with size we get pushed around a lot. Yes, we need a decent sized winger that can score to bring some secondary scoring but in my mind that is less important than some size and snarl on the back end. Which is why I agree with the sentiment of keep either Krug (at a "reasonable" salary) or Gryz but not both.

Ignore that dufus - he's just trolling. I mean he's not man enough to identify the team he cheers for.

Have trouble seeing Krug in a different jersey but someone will pay big dollars. Bruins are too good at this game. Their payroll is the envy of the league.

The payroll maybe the envy of the league but there are couple of harsh realities. They have been and remain an underachieving, choky organization. While they get blood from a stone financially, it has only translated into 1 cup with this current group. It should be at least one more. Sweeney still hasn't learned that you can't win with 1 stud line, 2 fine centers and a bunch of revolving plugs.

It's a huge miss that not one of these guys is a real producer. I just don't buy DeBrusk as a true top 6 guy. He is too streaky and when paired with a streaky center, and a mystery box...half your top 6 is a rolling brownout.

I've changed my mind on the Krug signing. Probably time to let him go so he can get paid. Sweeney has to address secondary scoring or this window is closed.

I agree - DeBrusk is streaky - and in playoffs seemed quite soft. He was easily pushed off the puck in corners and along the boards. Can score - but physical game is weak.

I wonder what was his relationship with Julien back then? If it was good, might make a bit better case for the Habs.

He will cash in somewhere else and I'm fine with that. He will likely go to a team that isn't as talented and you will see his numbers drop significantly.

He's a defenseman so probably great. Just as long as doesn't score or try to Julien will love him. Bonus points for D to D passing. Hot sex if it happens more than once on a given shift.
