No worries. I like the deal, and it made sense to knock this out first. Bert and Mo are on deck. 15 goals and 17 apples on a team that struggled to score. Definitely and upgrade from the departed

It's about what I expected. A 2 year deal. Yzerman is basically saying show me more if you want a longer deal. Fabbri came here and produced right away. He earned his contract. Which is more than I can say for most Red Wings players. I don't like how he gave up on plays after he turned the puck over. That's a big red flag for me. But we'll see. He might score 20 goals next year. I'm fine with that.

I get a sense that Fabri may be trade bait for a #2C
Maybe him for Tyler Johnson

There's no need to do this. Tampa wants to cut salary. We already discussed this previously. We can keep Fabbri and trade for Johnson.

Probably not. Yzerman doesn’t sign and flip very often. Fabbri won’t get Johnson

I agree with you. He’s making less than Abdelkader, helm, Nielsen and Filppula. Those 4 COMBINED scored 20 goals. I’m good with the deal

Low risk, pays Fabbri well, but likely only to play on a team going nowhere in those 2 seasons. I myself would have probably qualified him before going close to 3 - with low pay RFAs on an awful team in a flat cap year, there's very little risk of offer sheets, and if one came through it'd likely have been sub pick compensation, making it an easy cheap match for Det for one year, instead of moderate cost for 2. Would rather see Yzerman weaponize cap space and take advantage of ceiling teams instead of making this move now.

If Detroit were a cap team looking to compete for a Cup within the next couple of years I would probably complain that the AAV is a little high.

But they aren't, so I won't.

Like I said, AAV is a little high but the team has the space, the term is good, will still be an RFA on expiry. No real complaints I guess. On the off-chance he emerges as a late-blooming legit top-sixer, it's good value. If he continues to be the one-dimensional third liner he currently is, the contract is still pretty tradable and could get us something decent at one of the next two deadlines.

Fabbri could be a potential top 6 guy or he could be a stop gap winger who buys us time until the team is relevant again. It's 2 years. Perfect.

This is only the beginning. Yzerman will be very active this off season. Lots of cap space to leverage cap teams. There's nothing wrong with making this move now. None.

EH had projected 2 x 2.5m so it’s pretty much in line with his value.

Yeah, I mean the average NHL salary is like $2.75m and honestly Fabbri is probably a slightly below average NHLer in the grand scheme of things (even though that makes him one of the best Red Wings).

Probably $2.25m would have been "perfect" in my estimation, but I'm not going to cry over ~$500-700k per year on this team. Plus if anybody is going to get a little overpaid I'm glad it's someone with Fabbri's dedication and attitude.

I essentially agree with this, although I might give him less of a chance of being that legit top 6 guy than perhaps you would.

Erne is Yzerman's guy so we know he'll be re-signed. Agree on Bowey and Perlini. I'd like to see what Timashov can do with regular minutes so he can stay. Ehn can disappear. Mantha and Bertuzzi yes of course.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Top 6 on a bad team. Good team no way. Hence why I said "stop gap."

Agreed. He’s a 3rd line winger and it’s a short term deal so a few dollars too much doesn’t really matter.

Erne is definitely not guaranteed to be re-signed. Yzerman has no problem moving on from guys.

I wouldn't bring him back. But I think he will be back. I saw nothing special from him. He's a big body. That's it. I hope I'm wrong.

I lived in Tampa for 11 years and the lightning super fans hated Yzerman at first because he was willing to dump Conacher, and then MSL, and then Drouin. He has no problem getting rid of guys.
