I don’t think acquiring a defenseman is much of a priority.

If we acquire a guy like that too, it’s another guy we gotta protect

- jimbro83

The defensemen isnt a massive priority, but this is fallout in the event we can pull Cirelli.

Assuming we pull a 2C, the next priority is to fix the left side of the D.

Agree with the 1 to 2 years max others have stated.

Also, not only are the Rangers evaluating Chytil if he can be a 2c, but they're also going to get a better idea of what Barron could be (already has a strong defensive game). If both of them progress, then certainly Strome can't be signed for any kind of term. If they don't, the Rangers would still have the ability to re-up with Strome.

Signing Strome for 7.5M is basically saying that if Panarin has a bad year or gets injured we tie up 20M in cap space because Strome adds 0 value otherwise.

Strome isn’t close to getting Lindholm
- Nighthawk

Well of course not when we already traded him to Ottawa for Tkachuk

You can forget about Cirelli for Kravtsov straight up. There will be a lot of suitors for him.

Strome’s best years are with Tavares and Panarin. You guys can spend your money much more wisely. I’d let him walk.

Good young prospect that can fill a middle 6 role that’s cost controlled for 3 more years? Cirelli is good and has upside, but Tampa is in a tight spot, not sure they get better than that.

The way I feel about Strome is simple.

1. We either make a trade for a younger, cost controlled asset who is equally as skilled as him. (i.e., Cirelli).

2. We keep him, and give him a bridge (or bandaid deal) so we have a 2C, while we wait to determine whether Chytil can be the guy to fill that role.

Personally, I look at TBL with 9 players with a NTC/NMC. The only 2 that dont of their top 6 are Point and Kucherov, they arent going anywhere. Theyll do everything they can to keep Cirelli but I cant imagine Palat, Gourde, Johnson or Killorn waiving their NTC unless its to go to a cup contender. Most of which have their own cap problems. What I had suggested before was making a trade for Cirelli and Palat, going the other way would be the CAR 1st, Buch and something additional.

The other "problem" we have is dealing with DeAngelo (who to me resembles partly of the situation we had with Del Zotto).

There is no way Cirelli will be had for Buch and a 1st rounder. Better be a nice sweetener.

Tampa might be in a tight spot, but that doesnt mean they cant play ball with a bunch of teams and get them to pay up.

The Kings can offer a lot more than the Rangers can AND they can absorb other cap hits to help sweeten the deal. If they're active, they can pretty much own this offseason.

To get Cirelli and Palat, Id have Buch, Edstrom, DiGuisseppi, CAR 1st and 2021 4th rd pick

I gotchya... but... with cap uncertainty, a pick and a prospect for someone (Palat) thats 29, and probably gone in 2 years isnt bad. Plus Edstrom whos a solid prospect himself.

If Cirelli is valued that high, I don’t mind Kravtsov and CAR 1st for Cirelli and TBL 2nd to make it work. We’re so loaded with prospects not everyone can fit and adding another to the mix while never a bad thing, it’s a 20+ pick that’s a few years away. Cirelli is young enough that I don’t mind trading the 1st to get him.

Its not about what you mind, youll need to include that 1st to even have a shot at Cirelli.

He was on pace for a career high 53 pointS in his 3rd season. He’s good and I’d love to get him, but we’re not talking about a sure fire #1C. I don’t think Kravtsov’s value has fallen off a cliff since we drafted him 9th overall 2 years ago.

Im thinking he is a 2nd line center who is 23yo. Would you trade a guy who just put up 44 points in 68 games for a guy who was drafted 2 yrs ago and hasnt played not 1 NHL game?? A guy who turned tail less than a yr ago and went back to Russia?

Say we were doing a NHL20 trade for argument sake, If you had Cirelli and I said Id give you a late first rd pick and Kravtsov would you do it?

As far as Im concerned, the only people that see value in Kravtsov are Rangers fans... in the same way that Rangers fans thought the world of Evgeny Grachev. Where is he now?

Depends how you value Kravtsov. I think he’s a middle 6 winger next year that will put around 40 points with the potential to be a top 6 50+ point guy in a few years. He’s cost controlled for 3 years which is what Tampa needs and they get a pick. It’s definitely a trade id consider if I were Tampa.
