We won, but it feels like a loss. We didnt win Ten to Nothing! And that is Something!

I think at this point, an opening playoff game like this is better for the Flyers' long-term chances than a blowout would have been. No one can say the Flyers played a perfect game, and that there is room for improvement, but they still got the win. Best of both worlds, I think, assuming they take to heart (Hart?) the need to get better.

Did you check to see if his most common linemates had their times reduced as well? In the playoffs, you're more likely to play your top-end players as much as possible. Also, there tend to be fewer penalties, so a player who plays often on the PP will see a drop in that time as well. Just curious.

I actually think AV has rolled his 4 lines almost evenly throughout. If im not mistaken not a single forward played 20+ in any game or close to that. Line 1-3 had about even time last night with really only the 4th line having a slight dip.

Myers 💘
- Landsbergfan

Myers is just looking fantastic. He is physical. Has some jump in his step. A great poke check. Can get the puck to the net and a good first pass. Just really impressed with his game right now.

Nisky is usually solid but had an off game last night. It happens but he got caught up ice more than I’ve noticed from him. He is a smart player so I’m sure he will figure it out.

Thompson has to bury that shot. Ugh! He is not there for his skill but he is a pro NHL player. Gotta sink that one. Of course on the other hand Montreal had a 2 on 0 breakout and fell down.

Flyers won and held tough. Hart was awesome last night (as was Price). Can’t believe how poised he is at 21 now 22 years old. What a stud. He has always elevated his game in playoffs/big games throughout his career. Love this kid.

Is Couturier hurt? Looks labored out there and his face off numbers are down.

The thing about Hart that impressed me last night, and has impressed me throughout the year, is how calm he is. He's never scrambling around or flailing, everything is smooth and compact. He's shown he can make the athletic save when needed, but he's generally just an incredibly good technical goalie.

Disagree with that. He played with some snarl and I did not notice much laboring.

Farabeen had a decent game but I am still not sold on having a very young undersized rookie as the #1LW for the playoffs.

Can we discuss swapping out Ghost for Hagg in Game 2?
- bmoreflyer

Sure, why on earth would you do that? Gostisbehere played very well last night. He's looking like the Ghost of old.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but can you please stop using Kevin Hayes as your barometer for everything? We all get that you're not a fan of his, but he and JvR are not competing for similar roles or ice time on the team, so there's not point is using Hayes as a basis for JvR.

Again, not saying it's wrong or upsetting, I just don't think Hayes and JvR is an apples-to-apples comparison.

- jmatchett383

Hayes and JvR were producing at the same rate all season, so please spare me. I’m offering you fact. [/img]

Hayes wins faceoffs. Plays solid defense and is elite on the pk. When jvr does that the comparison fits.

Yes, but one is a center who plays big minutes on the PK. One is a winger who plays secondary minutes on the PP. They're not in direct competition with each other, as they have different roles and responsibilities. I'm not disputing their production, just that there's more to their games that offensive output.

Now, comparing Hayes to Couturier or JvR to Konecny, I'd say those would be much closer.

Niskanen has had 2 games now (tampa and game 1) where he missed some assignments and had some bad passes. I wonder if he has some nagging injury or just shaking off rust. He wasn't bad per say but wasn't his usual self.

Myers moment for me was in the scrum behind the net people were pulling each other off and weber tugs at his shoulder and he goes face to face with him and shoves him. Weber didn't push back they just stared each other down as the conflict ended. Physical isn't everything but you stared down one the baddest men in hockey and said eff you. Fearless. And then his poke check on the 2 on 1 was niceeeee too.

The craziest thing about Hart and our organization is that we still have 2 or 3 more goalies who could reach Hart level. What a change. He has the potential to be the greatest goalie in flyers history.

And to my earlier comment. I took issue with what to me was chasing contact with Nak. More than a few bad turnovers but also times he chased contact and let the play get behind him. And 2 games of bad penalties that ended up in our net. Im not saying bench him but im not giving him a free pass either.

I don’t care. JvR and Hayes are both 7 million dollar players and around the same age. JvR and Hayes are playing to the best of their ability.

Ha, I remember when Weber moved into that scrum, I was wondering who was gonna get it. I think it was Konecny (whoever it was that cross-checked the player) he was trying to get after. That could have ended badly.

I agree.

Yes we know he is an offensive player. But sometimes you have to earn a spot. Can he skate? Can he play defense? Can he do the little things in the corners? Win battles? Make smart plays? Be physical?

At some point JVR needs to realize he may need to change some things and adjust his mentality to get some of of those minutes back.

Skating around like a mope because you cant play with your friends is no way to earn ice time.

He needs to use his skills to impose his will on the lower line players he is out against.

And yes, AV should be using him on the PP.

But JVR needs to give AV no choice.

- MBFlyerfan

I guess JvR looked like a real Slouch last night making a nice move to dodge a Hab only to get crushed by Weber next. It’s evident he doesn’t have the foot speed anymore. Maybe a knee injury from a year and half ago has something to do with it but the effort was there.

I think this argument has taken an unnecessary turn. Jvr got hurt. During the interviews before the bubble was agreed upon he admitted to only recently getting healthy and not skating much. Personally I think he's behind the rest the team. To win the cup we will need jvr to contribute at a high level. But there's something to be said about is he physically there.

Whyyyyyyyyyy does everyone like Seinfeld so much? I mean it's not like they're doing a good job of signing or felding. Stickler for a tickler.

Jerry, I've HAD IT...I'm seeing this woman who's way out of my league but she has one trivial issue that I don't like so I need to end it with her!

(Door slams open) Oh, Jerry, uh, hi. Hey, I've got some crazy scheme that will end hilariously horribly but I think I'm really onto something here.

(Adjusting her undergarments) I've slept with every man in this city but I'm not easy or anything.

-laugh track-

There, I just saved you days worth of TV watching.

Yeah, I thought Braun was the most suspect Dman yesterday...he really seemed like he was fighting it most of the game and in particular in the 2nd

I thought Braun and Niskanen were off. I think most of the team individually can play better than they did last night. With a few exceptions such as Myers.
