It was Nikita Zaitsev who, for personal reasons, asked TOR today to try to facilitate a trade. He has five years remaining on a contract with an AAV of $4.5M. TOR will try to oblige Zaitsev but are not in a salary cap position to retain much, if any, salary.

Since the league was made aware this morning of Zaitsev’s availability, there have been multiple inquiries but it remains to be seen how many teams expect TOR to retain salary or make a soft/limited return deal because of the term/$ owed him.

Dubas liked (and still likes) Ceci so Maybe he turned down deals from other teams.

Muzzin and Zaitsev were playing really well 5v5 last year vs Bruins.

He was standing instead of sitting during assembly. He didn’t hit any students. A problem occurred when the special ed teacher was away. You deal with these issues but you find ways to deal with these issues for 8 year olds where they don’t face criminal trials.

As Canada Cup said earlier, him and AM could be a force in the league.

I'd trade him if a superstar D comes back.

If he stays I'd like him and AM be a constant line. JT and Willy could use a shakeup on the their wing.

Don't get me wrong, I am glad we have him for toughness reasons. Have you ever seen a close-up of his face when he gets angry? He's downright scary. Intense fearless stare, big frame, and the mean streak to back it up. If anyone takes liberties with the Lightning's stars, it's good to know we have someone who can beat the offender into a bloody heap - something the Leafs need.

Cernak and Maroon don't bring a lot of offense, but they do carry their weight and add value to the team. Did you see Maroon stand up to Chara? Talk about courage - fighting Chara is like volunteering to go through concussion protocol.

Looking around the current market, true top-pair defensemen (especially right handers) are quite rare. Nylander is a fine player (or not, depending on who you ask in Leaf Land), but he's gonna get you a Gudas or something along those lines. Which, Gudas would be a good add for the Leafs, but he won't solve your bigger problems and giving Nylander for him would be an overpayment IMO.

Shattenkirk will be available as a UFA. I doubt he comes back to Tampa and the Covid-cap might make him take an affordable deal. Again, not a true top-pair guy, but would be a good add.
