So in other words we do have 6 spots that are filled.

We should be able to fill a couple of those holes this off season.

So maybe ideally we will have 3 spots not filled.

That's pretty close in my book.

Not many teams out there don't have some holes.

- sgk56

if you think we are close, I suggest watching a few of the playoff games

we are closer to the red wings, then we are a team that advances in the playoffs

where do you think we rank right now, of the 8 teams in the division?

That's fair. That game by Korpi was damn impressive.
- RhinoFan

if we were knocking on the playoffs the last few years and had the work ethic c bus has, I would be really optimistic

I never see consistent work ethic with this franchise, in the last 10 seasons

I agree that we have a long way to go but we aren't starting from scratch.

Wouldn't you agree that a couple of pieces out of your 6 holes would make a big difference with this team. One being a 2C.

Now for a bit of revisionist history.....

If we didn't do the ROR trade but left everything else the same with the team, we would be in a much better spot. Imagine Jack-ROR-Cozens as your top 3 centres next year. I know, i know but that one trade really set this team back.

Many thought Mitts was the number 2 after his few games at the end of the year and look where that got them. How would a rookie center look in these playoffs as a #2? Not good.

If they want to go super lean they could go Cozens #2 and Mitts #3 and let the good times roll.

If we don’t trade ROR we don’t get Cozens.

But we may have ended up with Newhook who should have went top 10 but GM’s aren’t smart

So we're starting from scratch again?
- Michael Pachla

No, I don't expect it one bit.
Nor do I expect an OS that I suggested a few blogs ago (trade to NYR for our 3rd back, then OS Cerilli)

We can dream though in a what if scenario.
we jave Aug, Sept and Oct to kill!

Cozens is a much better prospect.

However I agree with sentiment he should start off on the wing and any time he plays down the middle this year should be considered an added bonus. I think he can play a top 6 role however on the wing.

A 2C knocks everyone down a peg into the roles they are supposed to play.

Mojo looked like himself on the wing and would give us an efficient 3rd line if he were able to play his own position

In addition, a competitive 2nd line would take a lot of pressure off Eichel and the top line

3rd center, why mess him up with learning another position when he doesn't have to? And going back if you read the evaluations of Mitts he was a top prospect but he has fallen. I think one year The Athletics guy had him as one of the top prospects.

You will never get back in a trade what Eichel is worth.

I think his dominance at the WJC ended up screwing him over more so helping him as he was rushed.

I thought he was our future 2C as well and guys like Scott Wheeler and Corey Pronman on the Athletic as well as Kournianos and Cam Robinson from other scouting avenues all had him as a top 5 prospect as well.

His flaws back then are what are keeping him back now. He can still become an NHL top 9 forward but it’s up to him at this point.

I’m fine with Cozens as a 3C if anything but not 2C, just setting himself up for improbable success

Cozens would be losing time on how to play center in the NHL and learning how to play wing in the NHL.

The WJC has been overblown for years, just look at Sam and Alexander Nylander for other Sabres examples.

We are going to see flaws in Cozens game too, hopefully he will work through them and have the desire to improve.

Why are we trading Eichel. Are we as dumb as those jerkoff opposing fans making trash proposals for Eichel and simultaneously stating *insert 3rd/4th best player* would be a massive overpayment?

Without a formal request, he's not getting traded.

If that man is traded, you can bet your life it will set this franchise back several additional years.

(frank)ing nonsense.
