Tough spot with the goalies in these exhibition games , if he sits out the Tampa game what is the expected time frame from Washington game to game 1 of our series? I’d almost opt for him to play both if it’s another 5 day or so lay off |

ECQF Game 1 for the Flyers will be on Aug. 11. So if Hart goes tomorrow (Aug. 6) and Elliott on Saturday (Aug. 8), it'll be a five-day layoff for Hart on the other side of tomorrow's game. I agree than I'd consider Hart get every game in the RR but the problem is that then Elliott will have played only 1-plus period in the Bubble and have not played at all since July 28.
With Hart having had (apparently) minor back spasms late in camp, I think you need to keep Elliott reasonably game-ready just in case something happens to Hart. |

Thanks Bill, may be best to have him go tomorrow then and Elliot against Tampa. |

Spot on in regards to D development Bill. Since the early 70s development of Jim Watson and Tom Bladon, the best the Flyers could do for 40 years was Behn Wilson, Chris Therien and I guess Pitkanen and Niinimaa. That’s pathetic.
It’s great to see D development doing a complete 180 over the last few years with Ghost, Provorov, Sanheim & Myers; all 4 of whom would be on my 10 best Flyers homegrown D list. Hopefully the trend continues with Zamula & York. |

Pretty grim line in point #5 Bill
“a vicious circle of self-perpetuation driven by the death of higher-end defense prospects in the system“
yikes
I’m assuming it’s meant to be dearth and not death.
Alex Lyon is pretty hilarious in that video.
You think Ghost gets a game in the round robin? I think he should.
Curious to see where Farabee slots in the line up, and what AV does with JvR after his comments of expecting more from him. |

I hear what you’re saying, it’s a tough call on which game to start Elliott. Isn’t it also possible with scheduling that if Hart starts Thursday that it will have been 6 or more days until Game 1 of the first series? |

I trust AV to call the right shot. He has done it all year.
Glad the Rags are out. They need to do a lot of work defensively. |

Yeah, he reminds me of a nephew of mine. I’m rather fond of him. Fun, very healthy, hardworking and extremely smart.

Bill- any word on what Pryor is up to? Initially, I was furious about the Hextall firing and subsequent departure of Pryor. I thought the loss of those two would drastically alter drafting philosophy. Thankfully, that hasnt been the case but I still wish Pryor was still here. (I understand why he isnt) |

Love him or hate him, Hextall stuck to his drafting plan and it’s paying off for the club now. The Schenn trade still puzzles me but if I actually take at the potential long term impact of the Farabee and Frost, I’m hopeful when Giroux and Voracek are winding down, their contributions to the team will be much greater than they presently are. |

The team needs to keep drafting and developing at close to the same level as the Hexy era to make sure this is a longterm turn around.
I can't think of too many players that I would not trade for (2) 1st round picks. Even if it meant taking on a stiff to even up the contracts. |

Agreed. For a while now, the most valuable asset in the NHL has been that young stud 2 way dman. I've really liked how the org shifted focus and really brought in a ton of these types of players. It seems to have been a priority and it's paying off. Guys like Provy are worth their eight in gold and he along with Sanheim and Myers should continue to improve. It'd be nice for Ghost to turn it around as well |

I agree. His steadfast focus on drafting has put us in good stead. I am happy to see that Fletch seems to place a premium on this as well. If there's a point that we are really on the cusp of winning, I am happy to flip some assets, but not sell the farm. Long term winning window is the goal that should allow us to get a cup. I am ok with the Schenn trade as I think the return will end up being solid in the long run. That's no knock on Schenn either. |

Totally agree. Liked Schenn a lot while he was here, but that's a very good return. Whether or not Frost and Farabee end up being special players remains to be seen, but I think they're both going to be very good for the Flyers. |

I think it also had to do with the Flyers window to win. hexy just didn't see it as being at that time, and thought he was getting a solid return. Now we should have two young forwards ready to contribute as the team improves.
Excited to see hockey back, and I think that if you tell me this team wins a series or two, I will be very happy. Unless Hart pulls a Binnignton in which case I will be ecstatic of course haha |

Yeah I agree with the timing of the trade. Maybe you don't make that same trade right now. That's why the GM gets paid the big bucks. |

The recent historical trend toward well-orchestrated drafting of D-men has also shown some early promising signs in the Chuck Fletcher/Brent Flahr regime, especially in the drafting last year of Cam York. - Bill Meltzer
The drafting of a guy like Mason Millman shows even more promising signs IMO. Kind of an off the board pick, but shows they valued some things in his game that fit the mold of a modern quality defenseman. It looks like they will be rewarded for it. Not sure how much you've been able to watch him, but he looks fantastic. |

I think there has been a big shift in the “drafting philosophy” in that we can already can see that Fletch is wayyyyy more into drafting from the USHL than any Flyers GM I can remember. But as far as continuing to build through the draft I agree Fletch is much closer to Hexy than he is to Holmgren. |

Just read up about him myself. He had a solid season in the ohl. Hopefully he keeps progressing. The flyers have been drafting well I’d say.
