Tyler Cameron: Questions for Coach Colliton
I said that the Oilers were going to bring it. The Blackhawks new the Oilers were going to bring it. And at the end of the day, the Oilers were too much for the Hawks and now we move on to a best of 3.

Ultimately, the Blackhawks fell to a 6-3 score and head back their bubble searching for answers.

I have some questions for Jeremy Colliton that I would like answers on, like the following.

Totally agree on both decisions being awful.

Hawk players need to step up - can’t have 3 scorers put up all zeros on the shots side of the box score - need Toews and Kubalik to rejuvenate the top line....

They need their coach to not panic and abandon the game plan 4 minutes into the game.

Oil adjusted after game one - Hawks need to adjust after game two.

Canes move on. Now they get to sit in the bubble for for what - two weeks - with no games.

A fun young team to watch.

That’s 6 straight wins for the Sox!!! Tremendous pitching during that stretch. As well as very clutch late inning hitting/run scoring.

Hoping the injured shoulders for Madrigal and Encarnación aren’t too serious.

Do you have a proofreader?

The Blackhawks new the Oilers were going to bring it.

I know some of us chatted about this already on the message boards, and you can say that it's hard to role 4 lines when you're constantly chasing in the game and there is some truth to that.

Can be a distraction sometimes......makes the writing appear rushed and 'first draft.'

We'll see if the team starts talking to each other out on the ice. Per Toews and either Colliton or another player, they just stopped talking out there and that caused a lot of the issues. May be why it looked so much like last year and early this year. Keith, got a bit defensive about the idea, and retorted that he was constantly talking to Boqvist.

Speaking of Keith, he was on Spittin' Chiclets podcast again. The Madhouse guys played a clip in which Keith admitted that after the team's play took a downturn in Q's last full year ("we had a pretty bad team there - we had an accountant in net one game for (frank)'s sake"), the frustration got to him and he said it negatively impacted his game "for a few years."

He feels like he has turned it around mentally now and is still in very good physical shape. He said that it's frustrating that you get different opportunities under different coaches. Mentions how each coach will have "their guys that they believe in" and that Keith started getting more ice time only after Gus was traded and could [finally] show [Colliton] what he could have be doing all along. Clearly still resentful that Gus took his spot on the PP. Keith admits he plays better when he is in a role where he is "the guy."

Reminds me a bit of the Seabrook situation with Colliton (which may also color Keith's opinion of his new coach). If Keith himself admits that he was mentally frustrated and it was making him play worse for several seasons, why does he believe he should just automatically be given the primo playing time and roles?

I get it that it's human nature and that Keith's got the skins and the skills of a #1, but I do not envy Colliton managing the personalities and egos in that room.

Tyler, good critique of the Quenneville decision. Not only did he show up to camp out of shape ("unfit to play"), I believe Powers stated something about the coaches being none to happy about his use of time in camp as well.

Two whammies against him yet he gets rewarded over more deserving youngsters like Sikura, Hagel, and Kurashev who could have been more effective.

Even if Colliton played them for 5 minutes, they may have been more impactful (positively) than Quenneville. I didn't even notice him at all in Game 2.

This is when I start to wonder if we've got a committee making the roster decisions again[?].

He cannot make the mistake again of putting Maata/Strome/Nylander in the ice at the same time vs McDavid when he has last change

Gotta coach a smart game

Possibly. I personally think this was all Colliton not managing his assets effectively as far as drawing up a lineup and deploying the players appropriately during the game.

Agree. Just as much as the players need to play smart fundamental hockey, Colliton and staff need to coach smartly and fundamentally.

Perhaps #2 can find a way to not gift wrap The Oilers' first goal 19 seconds into the game, then draw a stupid penalty 3 minutes later.

Maybe keith should put a shot on goal every once in a while in order to warrant being on the PP. Bad attitude AND overrated as hell. Nice....

And as great as McDavid is, they were down one goal with 16 minutes in the 3rd and Crawford gave James Neal a gift.

Oilers are a 2 man team, and Draisaitl has been neutralized by Dach at 5v5 through 2 games.

Please keep Dach with Kane

That's as stupid as me saying the Blackhawks are a two man team. The Oilers have more than McD/Drai.

The Oilers have the best player in the world in McDavid and a world class big scoring center in Draisaitl. Beyond them is Nuge, Nurse, and Larson who are good, not great players . There’s no too much beyond them which is exemplified in their poor 5v5 play all season.

Whoever wins this series is likely to lose in The round of 16.

Keith is 37 and the entire oilers defense core can’t even hold his jockstrap. 2x Norris, and Conne Smythe playoff mvp while playing nearly 30 minutes a game for 3 cup teams. How can he be overrated when he’s literally 37 years old playing on a rebuilding team?

Tyler those are all excellent questions you posed. The only disagreement I have is you say crawford is our best chance at winning, ok I'll buy that theory if crawford was playing lightsout , but his numbers and lack of action tells us it's time for a goalie change.

Giving up 10 goals in 2 games doesn't assure confidence or readiness. In any series a team will struggle it's the goaltender who can be the difference maker all of us have said great things about Crawford play in the past when Chicago was winning.

I go back to the 2015 and Crawford getting pulled but for only our backup darling who played ridiculously great allowed Chicago to turn that series around.

If giving up 10 goals in 2 games is our standard bearer as to who gives us the best chance of winning where in trouble.

The Quinneville insertion was stupid.

JC could have went with double-shifting Kane (which I suspect was always the plan) and go with 7 D. However, The last time JC went with 7 D in a game that counted, instead of set pairs and spotting the 7th defenseman, he played rat hockey "next man up". I doubt the outcome would have been different.

I expect more of the same from the Oil in game 3. They have the fastest skater in the league. They'll chip it in or throw it to an area and have McDavid shag it.

I know I'll catch crap for this idea but, have Kampf be McD's shadow. He'll never keep up with him in a straight line but Kampf could limit his availability as an outlet.

Whatever they did last game certainly didn't work so, why not?
