Have you made a decision on your kids' upcoming hockey season?
I'm starting to lean towards taking the season off and skiing instead.
I can't see the season starting before New Years, and there will be a constant threat of shutdown.
Our league still hasn't announced plans yet (which is understandable). - Atomic Wedgie
There are a couple teams in the boys league who will be opening camp on the 15th. League insists it's going to be playing. Having to come from 4 provinces away... It would be nice if they just put out a freaking plan...
As a parent... How do you say no to the kid playing junior hockey? Tell him he's skipping the year and 25 years later we will still be the reason he never made the bigs. 🤦‍♂️

Love watching young white guys playing with the old masters. Mayer holds his own.
I was going to throw some Cuban jazz back at you but I’m cooking gumbo so here’s some Dr. John for you. Our cat by the same name woke up enough to lift his head when I put it on.

Hey kid, ur not playing competitive hockey this year. There’s too many uncertainties around covid, and it’s good for you to try other activities.

Luv me some Dr. John. I was lucky enough to see him a few times including once with Ringo Starr's All Star band. His version of Iko Iko is great, one of the few originals from New Orleans. The New Orleans Dixieland jazz sound from the 20's made famous by Louis Armstrong inspired me to post this piece. Not well known much anymore but it was a huge pop hit back in the day.

You don't have teenage kids do you. Haha.
Sure is easy with the other two when it comes to activities and schools. But when you've got one who has absolutely worked his ass off for hockey, goes to the gym every day, is so devoted to hockey he's chucked all his friends because he refuses to get around people who drink and do drugs... And managed to get signed by a junior team and then carded, it's just a little bit more difficult to say what you just said when the league is going forward and everyone is playing.

What team?
And obviously if he has a legit shot, you don’t deny him that opportunity. But for the 95% of the other hockey parents out there, it shouldn’t be that difficult of a discussion.

Blind River. We have been pretty reserved parents through all of this, our kids haven't been in a retail store since March. We have decided the other two will be doing schooling from home again as Alberta's schooling plan is a joke.
Tougher when this is a kids life, and there's nothing to base the information off of. He would consider a missed year to have destroyed his 'career', because of course he's a teenage kid who doesn't want to hear anything that isn't about playing hockey for a living.
As far as I'm concerned, these leagues shouldn't be telling their players (the ones who are minors and have someone else making decisions) that their seasons are a go, unless they're issuing a plan to back it up at the same time. Actual information to look at would really help the parents here.
Not that hockey parents aren't used to being held hostage by minor hockey, etc., to this point I guess. 🤷‍♂️

That’s an amazing song, thanks. This kind of music adds such sophistication on top of these traditional tunes. My son had a chance to see Trombone Shorty and his band just marching through the crowds at some festival in Delaware.
Some guys besides Armstrong kind of broke through and made it a bit popularly. Al Hirt and Alan Toussain (who played at Koerner Hall with David Bromberg) and Aaron Neville were all known to one degree or another.
Oh, if you get a chance check out Dr. John and Etta James doing I’d Rather Go Blind

Is it a poop hole?! He had a few offers, one in Manitoba and another in Ontario. They seemed to have the best plan for him in Blind River so he picked them.

Coaches have an impact, sure. If they didnt, their position wouldnt exist.
As for the blues, ummm im sure the goalie change had a much bigger impact on the change from last to cul winners. - Fakepartofme
Again the coach change could have been what resulted in the goalie change. Ya know what I mean now?

Yeah I lived in Ontario as a teenager, it's all depressing in winter. He's in for a reality check there coming from southern Alberta. He's never had to experience real snow, cold with humidity involved, really a lack of sun in general... At any point during his life.

Lol so true.
I think he’ll feel a little claustrophobic in Ontario. Alberta is so open and spacious. In Ontario it’s all trees and rock everywhere. Blind River is a highway town, lots of traffic passing through.

I get you there, I grew up in Nova Scotia and after 15 years in Alberta I feel claustrophobic when I visit the east coast. It feels like visiting another planet, even the sun seems different.
I hate northern Ontario, (frank)ing endless stretches of nothing but wilderness and OPP. Its the worst place in Canada to drive through.
