What he means to say is his PR firm saw the blowback Jacobs and the Pegulas were getting, so they busted his door down to prevent him from doing something stupid. At the eleventh hour.

I guess that is one way to look at it.

I agree with Bandit on the way to look at it.

The overwhelming majority of the big business owners don't give a poop about the average joe. It's exceedingly rare that they do.

Bills need to release a player just to invite him for a workout.

I'd be pretty surprised if they brought Winters in, with the depth they have now. Seems like he might command a salary not commensurate with the Bills needs. Especially if Feliciano is only missing around 4 games.

Ok.

I think of 31 NHL teams, just two have taken such draconian measures, while only one has placed "maintaining the family lifestyle" as one of the top goals for their organization.

The Pegulas did end up paying their game day employees for the unplayed games

So far, and isn't it really 2 of 7 as 24 other teams are in the playoffs?

How people in ownership positions communicate and act differently to the economic challenges caused by the Pandemic is rather remarkable. Here's an outtake from an interview with Tampa Lighning owner Jeff Vinik in The Athletic.

“My life is not affected. I’m enjoying the sunshine on Cape Cod but many people are affected dearly by this. Yes, we’re losing a lot of money. But I’m not feeling sorry for myself or other sports owners whatsoever.”

With no revenue coming in, we had discussions about what to do with staff, whether we should furlough some employees or cut back salaries for some employees and frankly we had plans to do that. And at the 11th hour, I just couldn’t do it. Because I didn’t want to hurt our valued, hardworking, loyal employees at times they’re under such stress because of the coronavirus. I just couldn’t do it.

It will have no effect on hockey operations. As you know, I view the Lightning from a long-term perspective, both short and long term. We want to win five, 10 years from now. So in terms of our scouting, our coaching and strategic planning on the hockey side, none of that is affected. Business is just done more virtually than in person.

Kerry and Tim should take notes.

Do you think jeff vinik lost 30 million a year?

Apparently not as Vinok said they were considering the same measures, but he couldn't stomach leaving his employees without income during the pand2mox

Really though, this gets down to the "pause period" from mid e March through mid-July.

If a perennial playoff team like tampa loses $ or breaks even, wait until they suck for a few years.

The NHL is in trouble if successful teams just break even.

from 2012-13 season to 2018-19 season

tampa 827 mil in revenue

sabres 791 in revenue

https://www.statista.com/...bay-lightning-since-2006/

https://www.statista.com/...uffalo-sabres-since-2006/

so tampa made about 5 mil more a year

when you subtract playoff revenue, sabres make more money then tampa in regular season

Isn’t nhl team revenue based heavily on attendance? There is some tv money and other stuff. But I thought the home team keeps a majority of the gate. So I would be curious where Tampa falls in league attendance? Just to see if there is a correlation between a perennial playoff team that may lack in attendance....

Of course I could be remembering the revenue breakdown completely wrong.

Edit- 2018-2019, tampa was 6th in attendance. 100% capacity, 19,000 average. Per wiki.

The nhl is in trouble. Lol. Time to find more revenue Gary. You can’t add many more teams. Lol

Sssoooo. Not losing 30 mill. Lol. And I’m guessing the playoff revenue was helpful.

They have a new TV contract that's about to start next year or the year after, I believe. Will be much more lucrative than the last one

Carolina should make the logo on their black jerseys the primary logo. The map symbol logo they use is pretty lame, imo.
