4 million worth of player with an 11.5m price tag

SUPER HORRIBLE SIGNING!!!!

Based on timing and injuries...easily one of the worst signings in NHL history!!!

Karlsson is still a stud at 60% of his old self. He's a top-pair guy on any team in the league.

Having said the obvious, his contract is bloated but it wouldn't have been an issue so soon before Covid. With a flat cap for at least the next year, that contract is an albatross before it was due to become one in another 3-4 years tops.

Karlsson wasn’t really needed in San Jose. That money could have filled two forward slots. He’s not a fit there.

It will never happen but what would a fair offer be for Karlsson?

To SJS:

2020 NYI 1st + 2021 SJS 2nd + Zaitsev + Anisimov

To OTT:

I like Provy, Niskanen is solid, but aint getting any younger either, but yeah I get your point.

Before Karlsson signed that big deal, I was worried he might end up in Tampa. I was so relieved when SJ signed him long-term. A few seasons back, the idea of a Hedman-Karlsson pairing was tantalizing. Now, not so much, especially at that cost. Makes Hedman look like an absolute bargain by comparison. At this point in their respective careers Hedman > Karlsson.

Karlsson's contract wouldn't be so bad if the Sharks weren't already loaded with Burns (declining), Vlassic (really declining), Kane (will be declining in the next couple of years), Jones (enough said).

We're probably screwed.... But if (huge godzilla sized IF) Karlsson can stay healthy and Wilson can pull a couple of top 9 forwards out of his back side and plug up the gaping hole in net we'll be okay.
