Tyler Cameron: Training Camp 2.0
The Blackhawks and the rest of the NHL begin training camp today on July 12th.

I can confidently say that I will never type that sentence ever again.

It's exciting to think that hockey is so close to being back. And while the media isn't going to be in reporting on what's going on inside the building, surely, the team will be capturing some content to get us all pumped up.

First

Still feel like I'm in the twilight Zone, but be good to see something.

17 seconds was great, but now I'm getting tired of it............

Well I hope the NHL is able to pull this off and all involved remain healthy.

Personally it will be nice to watch some pro hockey again.

I'll be pulling for the Hawks but, I don't expect them to go far. They were just too inconsistent this past season and I'm afraid JC may suit up 7 d-men for one of the games again.

You can bet in Edmonton and if you ask the various media whom largely predict an Edmonton victory, they have noted how we beat the Oilers three times the now concluded regular season..And McDavid was not a name popping up much on the scorrsheet

Well a veteran coach like Tippet is not going to get beat the same way again, Right? Even should.McDavid not be as quiet and it is Yamamoto whom actually I am very worried about. He's good.

What is going to happen for us to win:

Obviously Crawford has to be stellar. Good challenge to be dialed in with nothing but a practice game and short
camp.

To win also our veterans have to make the difference and not only Crawford. Keith, Toews, Saad barreling down the wing.

Team defense, Colliton/M Crawford version II or III. They must get it right; they can make coaching adjustments on the fly, or between periods. Or maybe game -to -game. There is plenty of preparation time to strategize and I do not believe that Colliton and staff use the defensive plan from the opening games of the season

Murphy, Keith and Boqvist are the top minute dmen. I am not too confidant to receive a great job from other dmen - maybe after first game deHahn will be strong + but it is team defense to the rescue.

Keep in mind Draisalti Yamomato can beat you even with McDavid quiet. Neal is a proven scorer and Nugent Hopkins is a skill point producer as well

Good puck movement by our defense is sort of an overstatement, however, in those regular season victories. It was more two other points,: we matched them the first and even in period two it was a fast game. We got ahead and they could not catch up. Crawford saved us in the third as they came on.

What we take from that is:

Their defense is weak.
Play the speed game but don't be intimidated by them. Keep up.

We have enough thoroughbreds. I would love to see Hagel and Highmore and no Kamf. Alas Colliton won't sit Kampf but if Smith is out then insert Hagel. Even Sikura might surprise and he has preresiquite skill and can skate.

The one factor which really annoys me, however, is team response to goon tactics and heavy hits. I can imagine Kassian takes runs at Boqvist.

The proper response is to take a run and let their stars know they are going to get their bell ring. The more Kassian runs amok, the more their stars feel retribution. You cannot take a beating without smartly responding. You cannot be intimidated or lack grit. Too many wussies on our team and we loose.

But hey we can best them. I just hope Crawford is dialed in and we stand tall (and skate with them)

Sage, there's at least 8 million reasons per year why the 'Skins are changing their name.

I saw a chart on Twitter showing game times - if true, BlackHawk times (CDT, I think):

Saturday August 1 - 2 PM

Monday August 3 - 9:30 PM

Wednesday August 5 - 9:30 PM

I’m thinking in a last minute surprise move, they decide to keep the name, but change the logo to a giant potato.

Tyler you always put out some positive and informational news and ideas. Keep up the fantastic work.

I've read quite a few players have currently tested positive for covid many I hear are the canadians. Any updates on hawks players testing positive.

Also Seabrook and de haan knowing both had major surgeries, what are the chances that chicago holds them out as a precaution in the elimination round , to not jeopardize the benefit of the extra time off ?

No, they change their name to the "Warrens" and have a profile of Elizabeth Warren as the logo.

Imo it's a catch 22 for chicago , on one hand the extra time off allows the guys to heal , but also what concerns me from a bit of history. Chicago has always struggled in opening rounds by not being mentally ready .

I look at training camp and jc approach was to play the young kids more which I think hurt the overall teams timing , readiness to start the season, including Crawfords performance .

Does that go under the category of "fake" news

Good news on Crawford.

Also, others added that weren't included in the blog: Nick Seeler, Chad Krys, and Reese Johnson.

Good call by the Hawks to add Krys and Johnson.

Krys earned it more than Regula, IMO, but good to see them both on the roster. Although still a little ripe like Beaudin, Krys is an excellent skater, moves the puck well, and has learned to battle.

If there was one more forward added, I was expecting Fortin but will definitely take Johnson as he adds grit, fearlessness, and defense. Pretty good on faceoffs, too.

Seeler seems like no surprise as I expected him to be on the RTP roster since he was one of the first to partake in the voluntary practices and was on the roster when the league shut down.

Green opting out doesn't mean poop to them. He's badly declining and only played a game and a half for them.

I agree, neither Krys nor Johnson will play a game. It's still good for them and the other prospects to get the experience practicing with the big club as they prepare for play-in/playoff games.

As for the scouting reports on them, some folks on these boards enjoy knowing what the Hawks have in their prospects. Feel free to skip these posts if they're not your jam.

AND getting a good look at the playoff atmosphere - the loud cheering crowds all wearing the colors of the home team, the media all over the place, being recognized and cheered (or booed) when they go to restaurants for dinner....

You may be right, but they have a much better shot at playing in this format than any other year. If a few players end up testing positive, an opportunity could make itself available quickly.

I didn't read through the last few pages of comments on the last blog, but there was some confusion about Mitchell burning a year or not.

Recently signed prospect Ian Mitchell, ineligible to appear in the playoffs, was also not included on the roster. The Hawks could’ve elected to burn one of Mitchell’s three entry-level contract years on 2020-21 just to have him practice with the team, like the Wild are seeking to do with Kirill Kaprizov, but decided not to.

So at least that is a good thing.
