Sucks how many picks they traded away that year 21, 25, 31st and the 62nd.
- Buff36

They also got a legit, top half starting goalie(albeit one that needed rehab), one of the best 2C's in the game, and a high 20's scoring winger. It was just a couple years early, mostly based on the insistence of ownership. Hindsight is 20/20, but that's a very good haul for those picks in almost every draft.

I would do it for Larkin and Point. Larkin would be a perfect 2C for Skinner, kid can dish the puck.
Olofsson Eichel Rhino
Skinner Larkin Smith
Mojo Mitts Kahun Rusto if Mitts doesn't work out
Maroon Asplund Okposo

- Buff36

100% agree about point and Larkin would be great 2Cs

Cozens and 8 for either or. It would be great

Detroit views Larkin as we view Eichel.
Would you trade eichel for 4oa and whomever is Detroit’s top prospect not in the nhl?

Trades were fine.

Players picked with picks we gave up

White
Roslivic
Roy
Kovacs

Those guys are scrubs and bottom end players.

Oreilly, Kane and Lehner are superior to that trash. Unfortunately Botts traded those guys for scraps

Yep
A goalie who was a mess while he was here
A Winger who couldn't keep out of women trouble
And someone who lost his love of the game.
All on Botts!!!

Stevie y knows how much better eichel is...

Teams built through trades rarely ever work.

The Sabres had one foundational peice in Eichel.

The problem was Murray was so bad at handling our defense And drafting he spent of our assets on a few forwards and a goalie and couldn’t find any capable top 4 D or middle six players

You're basically kicking the can down the road 2 years if you trade Reinhart for Boeser, and Boeser has a large QO after 2 years.
- kingcong39

Just bc he has a QO at a certain price doesn’t mean u can’t work out a long term deal with him at whatever price

Its cause Sam is a Sabre already.

Rose coloured glasses.

I’ll never get over not drafting Leon at 2, nor will I ever think Sam is worth the asset we used to draft him.

However, he is a top 6 forward and hopefully we get him at the proper cap hit and he remains a Sabre for the foreseeable future.

I would move Risto + Mitts for Boeser

- Pegullaville

I don’t think “selling low” on Mitts is a good idea
And pretty much any trade for him now is doing that
Bc his value has to be severely less than what his ceiling still is
*unless you’re just willing to call him a bust & get whatever u can for him

Rush him like they did Mitts? Not sure that would be smart, starting him at 3 might be smarter.
- GilPerreault11

I don’t think it matters so much what line Cozens is on... as much as it does how he’s deployed

Whether his wingers are MoJo & Kahun, or Skinner & player tbd, i just think if u try to shelter him with offensive zone starts and try not to match him up against Tavares/Matthews or Crosby/Malkin, etc etc... then he’ll be fine

It very well could be better to put him with the more offensively skilled wingers

How much is the forward group costing?
9, 10, 7, 4, 5.8, 5.9, 4.5, 0.9, 2.5, 0.9, 1.9, 6.0 = 58.5m
I like it, but can they can't afford that!
They'll be worse off than Toronto, lol.

- IonSabres

It looks a lot better when u subtract MoJo’s 4.5mil after next year & replace him with Mitts or pick8 at under 1mil
And even better when we can finally rid ourselves of Okposo’s 6mil
Unfortunately... bc of Okposo’s 6mil in particular,
it’s going to look like we pay too much for forwards no matter what we do... unless you’re just plugging in Mitts & Cozens into the top9 and calling it a day

he's seems to have a body-type that has a lot of "baby fat" to it...i'm not sure he'll ever be "cut" like you seem to want him to be and i'm also of the opinion that he's still growing into his frame...once he gets there i think he'll be fine
- Michael Pachla

Casey reminds me of Phil Kessel. They are both very talented and actually very good shape for the shape they are in.

Skinner-Larkin-Boeser would be one of the best
“2nd lines” in all of hockey

But I’d be shocked if Detroit traded Larkin for anything less that what would seem like a huge overpayment
I’m talking pick8, Cozens, and probably more
Larkin is their Eichel
And while he’s not quite that level good,
he’s a really good player stuck in a bad situation,
and could become a legit superstar on a good team
Especially if he was playing behind someone like Jack that took some focus off him

The big reason it was “too early” though was that EVERY move gmtm made for our defense was a total bust & severely hampered our team for his tenure here

They can easily do that for 41 games. It's not so easy for the other 41 games.

You save $3.5M by replacing Johansson with Mittelstadt or pick 8. How do you cover the raises both Dahlin and Jokiharju will be getting after next season when the cap will be the same? McCabe and Hutton's $$$ likely won't be enough.

we are not in the shape we would like to be in cap wise

the hawks struggled once they paid kane and toews

we will struggle with the skinner deal

and we don't even get post season games

You are right and to top it off Ullmark won’t sign for more than 1 or 2 years in the 2 mil range. He wants to prove himself and get the big raise. UPL may be the answer but that’s not a sure thing. Leaner and others would want 5 mil plus.
Again the problem with this team is high bucks for secondary scoring that isn’t there. If that’s not fixed first it’s a bust.

Cluelessville the scatter brain said that they should have let Skinner walk.
