The Coyotes, with using the Hossa LTIR exemption, are looking at about 6.75M in available cap space. That is with 16 players signed. I realize this involves speculation but how are they going to be able to afford to re-sign Hall and complete their roster?

All you can say with any certainty is that if a doctor ordered it, then most likely the state of Arizona will ignore it.

I enjoyed that line.

The blogger will fall back on the semantics that they were the Phoenix Coyotes in 2012. So technically, he is correct.

It may be harder to unload contacts now , but they have a lot of money tied up in Goligoski, Stepan, Soderberg, Demers, Hinostoza, Richardson etc.....

Demers, Stepan and Goligoski all are under contract next season. They have around 6.5 million to at a bare minimum sign 3 more forwards. So beyond the cap problems around resigning Hall, there is the fact that the coyotes aren't even a good team. Hall will either chase money which the Coyotes cannot afford, or chase a cup which the Coyotes can't offer. He's as good as gone.

Teams with no history of accomplishment...no consistency in pride...these teams find it real easy to tank.

That’s why they’re perennial losers.

Go ahead arizona...just keep tanking.

Looks good on ya!

Sure, but to trade some of those players is likely going to mean taking salary in return. Most teams are going to be tight up against the cap.

This situation is a prime example of why you don't want to be a team in the Yotes position. Not good enough and capped out. Now it's going to be difficult to get things done. Chayka has mismanaged the team and mismanaged the cap. It's most likely going to save him though from a potential bad deal in re-signing Hall.

Arizona will most-likely lose to Nashville so they don't have to plan a tank.

Who's the "defenseman on his way to being one of the best in the NHL"? Genuinely asking

mmm. I dunno. A very good one, most definitely. Where you put that “one of the best in the NHL” line is gonna be key.

Top 5, 10, 20, or just a bonafide stud 1a option for a team.

Guessing 20? Is that the mark? 10 would be a near impossible cause to champion. Honestly, selling him on his way to 20 won’t be easy, either.

"One of the best" could theoretically be top-180.

The coyotes absolutely can resign Hall and likely will. Soderberg and Richardson are coming off the books. The Ribeiro buyout comes off the books.

Then they just to trade 1 of Raanta, Goligoski, Demers, Stepan. At least one of those players (likely Raanta or Goligoski) is tradeable without having to pay the acquiring team.

Hall will play with Colorado, Calgary, or Arizona next year. The fact that AZ is a top 3 chance/choice for him is a credit to Chayka being creative to land a Hart trophy winner and one of the very best wingers in the game.

I seriously doubt that Raanta can be traded without taking salary back. All of those players will most likely require taking salary back. The will also have to replace that player. Getting a backup goalie won't be an issue but they have to replace players who have played significant roles.

What makes the teams you list a fact? It seems as though it's speculation and not a fact.

What will most likely happen is that the end result is that Chayka made another ill advised move in acquiring Hall in the first place.

He was worth 2.5 WAR this season, making him better than 94% of other defensemen.

There it is, WAR, that’s what we should judge all players by, nothing else matters. Love analytics guys.

I truly am not worried about finding a suitor for one of those players.

Their replacements will be the young guys that are on the cusp, like Hayton, Soderstrom and Capobianco. We actually don’t have a ton of need to add any more bodies../the roster is still full after letting the UFAs is walk.

While there is some outside chance Hall signs somewhere other than those 3 places, it is extremely unlikely. I still think people are foolish to think he wouldn’t sign in AZ. We officially have the wealthiest owner in the entire league, a coach that players love, a ton of young talent showing promise, and players have always preferred to live/play in Az due to weather/lifestyle. We have a history of signing top free agents that people have forgotten about. From Jovanovski to Ribeiro (sucked but he was the top center on the market) to close misses on Van Riemsdyk, players want to be here.

Calgary makes the list just cause it’s his hometown but frankly I think Calgary would be stupid to sign him as it’s the one position they don’t need.

Colorado might win him over with Mackinnon.

Few other teams have the need, the cap, or the desirable situation that Colorado and AZ have, so it’s near a slam dunk guarantee, with hometown being the only wild card.

What a dumb statement, because his WAR was 2.5 he’s better than 94% of other defenseman? The problem with analytics people is they love it until the next one comes around, what happened to corsi? Is that now obsolete? Are all other previous blogs/write ups wrong from when you or others used corsi? How did anyone back in the day build a hockey team without WAR? Analytics can be helpful but to put a blanket statement that that he’s better than 94% of all dmen because of his WAR just makes you a baffling idiot.

One thing I will never get is why if you don't understand something you have to call other people names. It just makes you sound like a loser.

Now, to answer your question, when someone mentions points as a stat, does anyone ever say "what about assists, you goddamn idiot?"

NO. cause that would be dumb.

Corsi is a great stat, WAR is a one-number stat that includes Corsi, goals, assists, shooting percentage, offense, defense etc.

Is it 100% ?? No, but what other stat is? WAR is the best stat that we have.

Also, as an added bonus, underneath each player's WAR rating, it tells you the exact percentage of players they finished better than.

So when I said that Chychrun was better than 94% of all other NHL Dman this past year, I was being literal.
