The contracts given to JVR and Hayes were awful at the time, and look even worse now. Huge money for two mediocre talents. Very Flyers-y move.

JvR, yeah, but although the Hayes deal was frowned upon heavily at the time, has been lauded as a huge success since. He was a major cog in the team, value only rivaled by Couturier and Provorov this season.

In a few years this will likely change, but as of right now, you’re wrong about that one. I have to admit it. I was, too. I hated it at the time. But he earned that cash this season.

Seven seasons at 7.1M for a 28 year old who has never eclipsed 50 pts. Another contract that makes you wonder why teams spend valuable cap dollars on ufa's. Five years at most then let him walk at 33/34

He got the 7 year contract when he was 27 and eclipsed 50 points last year.

They gave him a lot, but the contract wasn't awful when they cap was still going up every year.
