Love Getz.. and his place in the franchise will never be questioned. As for next couple of years. He should continue to have his minutes cut and hopefully he gets more rest and is actually more productive.

If the Ducks draft a winger with a shoot 1st mentality.. then having Getz feed them would be beneficial. But it would need to be a real finisher.

Otherwise I'd like to see him @ about 16 minutes or less a night ... with Rico and Steel and hopefully Terry and Trevor getting more minutes in the middle..

His contract did age better than Pears though that's for damn sure. Murray should have never given Pears that contract... His biggest screw up IMO.

Why? Unlike Getz, Perry was a league MVP. The prior 5 seasons (prior to extension) he averaged 34G per season. Even if you take out his MVP season of 50G and make it 40, he still averaged 32G per. The first 3 years of his new contract he scored 43, 33 and 34 goals.

I can't stand the hindsight argument. If Murray lets Perry walk, and he continued to score over 30G a season everyone would be screaming for Murray to be fired.

Your posts are always so well thought out. I'm really surprised at your position on Perry.

Should've been 5 or at the most 6 yrs tops.. which I argued for at the time...and was the perfect length of deal. Everyone knew his wheels would be the downfall. To top it off keeping Pears cost us both Ryan and Palms which I argued would have made us better overall ..

He got paid for the 10/12 years.. A 3 million $ bump to me just wasn't warranted ..
The 1st 3yrs of the new deal were very good ... after that... ugghhh.

I'm always against paying wings top dollar. unless generational... which he just isn't.

Then he walks. We both know he's getting 8 years, or he leaves and gets 7 from someone else. Guaranteed. He would have been a fool to only sign for 5/6 years.

His hands were his downfall. He never had "wheels." Yes, after the first 3 years of the new deal, "ugghhh" but here again you're playing the hindsight 20/20 card. You admitted the 1st 3 years were very good. Had he kept that pace up, you'd be satisfied. Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways. Not sure who the "Ryan" is you're referring to. Can't be Bobby Ryan (disaster for Ottawa).

Anyway, we can agree to disagree. The players are going to cash in on that one big potential UFA contract (sign and stay, leave and sign as a UFA somewhere else). You just cross your fingers it pays off over the life of the contract.

True on the cashing in part.. I just wish it hadn't been with us.

I don't believe that happens to Bobby if he stays.. He has freely admitted that the trade really put him into a tailspin.. And I would've been fine with Pears leaving.

Keeping Palms and Bobby along and had Raks coming into his own.. to me would've been the best move on RW..

Getzlaf is Getzlaf. He's an honest player, that's what I've always liked about him. No extracurricular crap. The only really negative thing I can say about him is his love for the blind drop pass. Sometimes it works (posted video) and sometimes it doesn't. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3_MU5sTehA

Don't know what to think about re-signing him. If he's willing to do a year-to-year thing like Thornton I don't see a problem with that. However, Getzlaf has listened to Teemu and invested his money in a few outside businesses, one of which was very successful before the Covid shutdown. As long as he's not protected in next years expansion draft, I'm fine with re-signing him.

So true ... If I never see another drop pass it’ll be too soon..

No protection for Seattle ... exactly!

Wish Anaheim pulled the trigger on the rumored Getzlaf for Sheldon Souray trade the season he broke out in the playoffs. Habs would have probably traded him the next season because he wouldn't have scored 100 goals and 150 assists in the next season and the media would have labeled him a bust.
