Shilton: Leafs don’t have good enough defence. Too much $ invested in forwards. Dubas plan isn’t working. Gotta move someone for defensive help. Can’t sign a coveted FA. Young defence needs help. Defence was good enough for Marlies, but not the NHL. They are not getting out from cap crunch.

Cauz: The cap isn’t going up. Liljegren, Sandin, Holl, Lehtonen aren’t good enough yet.

Jason Spezza sure worked out great. And I'm sure non-Leaf fans believe no one will ever sign in Toronto. The tears over Lehtonen were delcious.

I don’t think Piets will sign with Toronto.

If the Leafs trade for a partner for a Rielly, and they should, then they have to move a player who can command a player good enough to play with Rielly. I don’t think Willy get’s you a 1-2D, fwiw. But if they can get STL to dance on a Parayko for Nylander trade, they have to pull the trigger.

Leafs have an abundance of what Willy brings already, so his value on the Leafs is lower than what it could be elsewhere.

I’m going to have to double check that though.

With Robertson on the way, it makes trading Nylander easier. Who else is better to play with as a rookie than with Tavares? Put Mikheyev on the other side and there’s your second line. Just need a two-way center who kills penalties to play in between Johnsson and Kapanen and you have your shutdown line.

Parayko fills one of the two spots in the top-4. You can give Rielly a proper partner, or have Parayko and Muzzin make a bruising shutdown pair. Does Dermott make the top-4, keep Holl with Muzzin, or do you go out and find someone else? Pesce?

If the Leafs actually got Parayko, I'd put him with Rielly. Have Muzzin and Dermott pair and have Liljegren/Sandin/Lehtonen 3rd pair. Trade Holl.
