maybe because their skin isn't actually yellow or red..? pure speculation here
- Pat1993

While closer white people aren't white and black people aren't black. I'm not defending use of the terms, for years as a football fan I've only referred to the football team in Washington as the football team in Washington...but it doesn't get easier figuring out what is and isn't acceptable. I know several white people afraid to refer to a black person as black because they're afraid it's racist. They say silence isn't an option but to me and I'd imagine for most people it's the safest option

A good way to avoid that is use their name. They usually have one

I know exactly what you mean. Hopefully we'll evolve and get to a point where everything you say isn't scrutinized and used against you, even if no intentional racism is being used. There's a huge difference between ignorance and flat-out discrimination.

McGill had to drop Redmen because despite it being created for people wearing the color red, groups decided it was derogatory.

Yes, however often it's not how you'd discuss it. For example, if I asked you the race of Lebron James, some may say African American, others may say black. My point was there are white people I know who would be afraid to say he's black for fear of being seen as racist

Pat, we went from police reform to changing packaging in food to tearing down statues of abe Lincoln in a span of a month. Life comes at us fast I guess.

They were created as obvious stereotypes. Calling somebody Aunt Jemima or Uncle Ben is seen as similar to calling them an uncle Tom

my favorite part of the aunt jemima and uncle ben thing was the outrage from whitey, as if it affects us in any way.

well, obviously using it that way could be deemed as racist, since you're basically saying "oh you all look alike anyway"...

oddly enough this is how us whites seem to be dealing with racism, by being paranoid and awkwardly too careful

the same people who will tell you not to worry about "things that don't affect you" (without knowing how those things affects you by the way) were the people who were somehow finding a reason to complain that these products are changing their names.

people watching has always been a fun little hobby, but during this last little while it's really become interesting.
