am pretty sure copp is a third-iine center who plays up a notch out of necessity...28 pts. is his career high and bennett's got that beat (36)

if you can get that from toronto, then go for it...i think it's a pipe dream

- Michael Pachla

You neglected to mention quite a few things in your comparison between Copp and Bennett.

1. Copp is a Center, which is a position of great need
2. Copp is excellent defensively, and has been for three seasons now
3. Bennett's high water mark of 36 points was 5 seasons ago
4. Bennett produced a mighty 12 points this past season
5. You mentioned Copp's playing up a notch out of necessity. Bennett has played 2410 even strength minutes the past three seasons while Copp has played 2547 even strength minutes the past three seasons. Not exactly a big disparity there.

Copp is a Center who can cover the defensive responsibilities that Larsson has been covering the past 2 seasons, while still having the ability to produce more offensively than he has so far.

I don't know what Bennett is at this point.

all points taken...and they're good ones

in my lineup i had buffalo signing soderberg to play 2nd line center...and i had bennett on the right side of cozens with kahun on the left side of the third line...i think bennett could take a lot of pressure off of cozens as well as take draws, which he's very good at

That's a good one TM, atleast you kept your sense of humor, gotta be decent at something cause you were horrible at being a GM. Maybe the horses will work out for you.

Soderberg at nearly $4M for 3 seasons is a no thank you.

There are two approaches regarding insulating Cozens.

One would be getting him a better RW player, such as a Craig Smith for example, to help him defensively.

Another would be getting him a play driving RW player to drive the offense so Cozens doesn't need to do the bulk of that himself.

In order to take that approach, they would need a true quality 2nd line.

I'm not sure Skinner - Soderberg - Johansson is that.

It's an improvement for sure, but I'm not sure it's enough.

If the 3rd line was Kahun - Cozens - Craig Smith, it would be much better.

July 13 is the target date to start training camps.
"The NHL and NHL Players’ Association have finalized a tentative agreement on Phase 3 and 4 protocols to open training camps and resume the 2019-20 season inside secure “bubbles” in Toronto and Edmonton."

I don't know if he makes the team just because the Botterill philosophy was all about "development", but he definitely makes the decision harder.
- buffalofan19

Looking forward to seeing him this year, well hopefully this year. A lot of prospects could be thrown for a loop with the Covid, wonder what teams will do with there players if some of these leagues don't start back up.

Smith would be a quality signing, he would help in showing these younger kids how to go about the business, and what it takes. That could be huge to a young team, well and plus he always seems to pump in 20 or more goals.

i can live with smith...now fit him in and keep the cap under $75 million...

that figure is not necessarily what buffalo will use, but i was using it as an exercise to see what could fit in this season

Why are we keeping the cap under $75M?

The cap will be $81.5M this coming season, whenever it begins.

Smith is a lesser Mark Stone with his all around game, which is a big compliment to Smith.

actually, if all stays the same, the overage is gonna cost the sabres about $1.25m so were talking just over $80m...

it's a "leaner" figure i wanted to work with after Terreee's comments on the Zoom call

Think he would be a good player to try and sign, and then go and get Tuch, are RW would look very nice.

I have no idea if the leaner approach is only referring to the off the ice staff or if it is referring to the roster as well.

Sign Smith
Trade Risto and Asplund and 2021 2nd to Vegas for Tuch and Stephenson
Sign DeMelo to play along side Dahlin for a year while Joker Matures 1 more year before taking that spot.
Draft Holtz at 8

I would also trade Montour as well, and then DeMelo can slide to the 2nd pairing when Jokiharju is ready for the top pair.

I agree, I left Rhino, Montour and Miller open for other opportunities to strengthen the roster.

Depending on what Rhino is looking for contract wise, either flip him for more assets or Rhino, Tuch, Smith is a pretty good RW group.

Very much so, just wondering how Adams and Rhino go about this next contract, wouldnt surprise me if Rhino took a 1yr deal with the cap situation, should be more teams with a little more cap flexibility next year. Keep Rhino for that 1 year and gives Holtz another year to get ready to step in.

Just looked and Cozens was the only Sabres player listed in the top 50.
- kingcong39

need to keep in mind that none of the players listed have played pro yet. A bit telling that Ryan Johnson is not on the list.

Unfortunately not top 50, but at 92, and Samuelsson was at 88. We definitely don't have the high end blue chip talent. Wonder if we could use Montour or Rhino to get that blue chip as a piece in a trade.

Nor Mattias Samuelsson.

According to Wheeler, he didn't give either of the 2 above much consideration.

Where are you seeing the rankings beyond his top 50?
