What’s your “right deal” look like though?

I’d want something like 5mil for 3yrs
Too risky if he wants more $$$ or a longer deal
Idk that I’m even comfortable with 3yrs?

- jdfitz77

3yrs is about right, I would go 4.5 to 5mill, if he gets a better offer then so be it, he isn't gonna get what he got last time.

Ill keep on my

RyJo for Risto Trade.

Prospect, 8th OA, Hutton
For
Anderson
Savard
Korpisalo

- ImThatGuy

I think these are pretty bad

1- don’t get me started on Johansen
He’s super overpaid, effort issues, overrated af

2- Anderson shouldn’t cost much coming off that REALLY bad season
Savard & Korpisalo should help...
but I’m not even close to considering the 8th pick for players of that level- no way

Even with the tight cap, it would surprise me if someone else doesn’t give him an offer like that

I think we’d have to overpay to get him
Things are a mess here right now
I wouldn’t wanna sign a UFA deal here unless it was far & away my best offer

Yes and every year there is a clamoring for the NHL to change the lottery system.

They got mad that teams tanked for McDavid/Eichel, and were open about it.

They pouted and said fine we will change the rules, and made it worse. Find me one NHL fan that likes the lottery system

It hasn't stopped teams from tanking, at all.

If you want to have a lottery, take the lottery and move it back to you can only move up a maximum of 4 spots or do a top 5 only lottery for all 5 picks.

❤️❤️❤️ I’ve been saying the same thing

No, free agent is coming here unless it is a massive overpay.

Especially with the narrative being painted about the Peguals currently.

- ImThatGuy

Tuch is under contract, so it would be a trade.
He has no say in the trade as he doesn't have any sort of No Trade Clause.

What is next on your list?

You have been wrong in many of your assumptions.
The only one of merit is the experience of the GM...that is not insignificant, but you have been throwing alot of poop at the wall and not much s sticking.

Agreed.
I had set my expectations for Sabres at 8th...maybe 9th in recognition of the outcome we saw.
The butthurt from people is
A) it's the 1OA
B) a non deserving team could win it, like Pittsburgh.
It's all wasted energy IMO.

Isn’t most discussion on here just that as well?

I think the team we have now is soft, slow and flawed. To get pieces we need, we need to trade pieces that will hurt us (Rob Adam to pay Paul) so I don’t see ys fixing this disaster. Eichel is gonna demand a trade next year. Radical but trade him this year and build a complete team. Now is the year to do it

Eichel, Skinner, Thompson to ANH for Zegras, #6, Henrique (they will need to shed salary) and Sam Steele

Reinhart for #10

Draft Raymond, Rossi and Lundell with our picks. Will have a top 3 pick next year. Most of the new core won’t be on team this year when we suck again. Trade Risto to Seattle with future picks to take Henrique and Okposo.

Sets us up for a future dynasty

Raymond/Cozens/Rossi
Mitts/Zegras/Kahun
Davidsson/Lundell/Aspland
Pekar/Larsson/Steele

Dahlin/Joker
Johnson/Montour
2021 1st/miller

UPL in goal

- Fattony1187

Interesting theory
But that is only a consideration if Eichel wants out

I don’t think the Eichel trade is nearly good enough though

And why are Montour & Miller the Vets u keep?
They don’t strike me a “Captain” material

We’d also wanna think about picking Askarov if we had multiple picks
UPL looked great in the ECHL, but struggled in Rochester. He’s not a sure thing franchise goalie

Also...
Anaheim is abbreviated ANA, not ANH
That’s just weird, lol

You do realize they literally have 4 #2RhD's, right?

Risto, Montour, Miller and Joker are all relatively redundant.
Each has different qualities, different strengths and weaknesses..but literally 4 guys for 2 slots on the 2nd & 3rd pairing. They have 2 extra, maybe 3 if Birgen could hold down the 3rd pairing.

Trading 2, even 3 would NOT be a problem.
They would still need a 1RhD even if they retained all 4.

- IonSabres

Huh?
If we kept Risto, Montour, Miller & Jokiharju...
How do u figure we’d still need a RH defenseman?

They could trade one of Montour or Risto without losing anything. Those two are redundant. Between the one remaining plus Joker and Miller, they're fine. I think think they could even lose Miller too and play Borgen.

Making a trade package of at least one of those 2 d men (and maybe 2) plus some assorted depth picks/prospects would get them something. How good that something would be is TBD, of course. But I don't think they'd really miss the d men they traded.

Montour gets you more in terms of trade value, but trading Risto offers more cap flexibility.

My proposal would be to keep Risto (i know) and parlay some combination of Montour, Miller, Mittelstadt, picks (not 8oa unless it was a 1st round swap) and D prospects for a guy like Monahan or Cirelli.

Montour, Mitts, 1st round swap for one of those 2. I think thats a fairly attractive trade package, especially with a stagnant cap

- jcragcrumple

I guess I just don't understand why anyone would want to let this coach overplay him for two more years and then let him walk as a UFA?

Ha didn’t know abbreviation. Went Montour due to more control over contract then Risto. In this scenario would have lots of flexibility, cap room to go whatever route you wanted with the couple vets we would keep

Because they are all 2nd and 3rd pairings, none yet are 1RhD

Speaking for myself, I dont necessarily want to keep him over Montour. I would do so if Montour is more valuable than Risto, as I suspect he is, and could be a piece to acquire the center we need. I'd trade either. Or both. But definitely one of them

My biggest thing is I am confident Jokiharju is already better than both, but if both are still here, he's getting buried.

He should be 20+ min and 2nd PP unit this year.

Not to mention 55 steals so much ice time with #9, and it's now 5 years of data telling us #9 is worse with 55 on the ice.

If the best deal for a center available is Risto for Copp, fine, do it. But if I can get Cirelli or Monahan by packaging Montour and swapping 1sts or whatever, I'd do that. If montour is more valuable, trade him.

I want the best center possible and would trade any player on this team beside 9 and 26 to do so. Risto and montour are completely interchangeable pieces to me and I would trade either.

And the only 1 safe in that group is Joker, all the others could be used as pieces in trades.

Agree on this, but I think the best move for the teams overall performance will be eliminating the possibility of 55 playing 25 minutes a night entirely.

If Montour brings back the better player, then I want both traded.

In summation- trade Risto no matter what

Are they going to even play the full playoffs? 26 players have/had Covid-19 so far.

Bob McKenzie: "Are there going to be so many positive tests in Phase 2 & 3, that you never really get to Phase 4 because it undermines everything you're trying to do in a locked down bubble environment? It obviously is concerning to have 26 positive tests in Phase 2 so far."

I don’t agree that we need a “RD1” necessarily

If Dahlin turns out to be what he’s supposed to,
a RD2 quality partner for him will be just fine

Karlsson for example was never paired with another AllStar, just a solid partner like Hainsey

Heck...
Does Vegas even have a first pair guy?
Schmidt 22:14
Theodore 21:41
Martinez 21:28
McNabb 20:01
Holden 18:51
Merrill 18:09

They’ve just got a bunch of 2nd pair guys they play pretty evenly

The NHL is different now
We don’t need to pair Pronger & Niedermayer together necessarily anymore
Lots of ways to get the job done

I can't see how they can really move forward, covid isn't going away anytime soon.
