Pegula Sports and Entertainment has fired executive vice president of finance and business administration Chuck LaMattina. Move was in the works for a while. Not the kind of move fans will notice on the field or ice, but a big move internally.

The Pegulas are scheduled to pay out $20.25 million in signing bonuses Wednesday, according to CapFriendly, including $7.5 million each to Eichel and Skinner, $3 million to Okposo and $1 million to Ristolainen.

That's what makes zero sense. A team that had a less than 2.5% chance to win the lottery didn't win the lottery, now has a 12.5% chance to win the lottery
- ImThatGuy

yeah.. its a messed up way of doing it. they should have just done it with the teams already out or wait till after they were eliminated.

they should've just waited until the play-in round was complete to have the lottery. nobody watches it anyways. the nhl is a joke.
- TheHank

Yeah they just should've waited. Then all eligible teams would've had their slot and the corresponding very small odds of winning. Doing it before play-in round basically combined eight teams tiny chances into one great chance. Now they all will have 1 in 8 chance of picking first. This is the worst part of the way it was done, they should've just waited.

Hi, have you seen the discussions on social media about this? There is confusion about it, by a lot more. people constantly asking for clarification

But hey insults are cool, for 5 year olds.

- ImThatGuy

Sorry for the insult.

It seems really easy to understand. Maybe not for "social media" people, but hockeybuzz people.

thank you.. i thought i was the only one that saw that.. And yes i expected at least one of those 3 picks to be a letter.
- SabresFaninIndiana

I think the fact that it was 1st OA was BS but I thought it was a forgone conclusion one of the play in teams would win a pick.

Agreed. To be honest I loved the format. Something different. We would all be pumped knowing Sabres had a shot at #1 or spot in the playoffs if they were above the Mendoza line. That drawing on Friday night one last reminder how poopty Botterill was. Thanks Botts another thing you completely botched for the Sabres. Man he was a total disaster.

After balls 9-10-2 were drawn for the No. 1 overall pick in tonight's NHL draft lottery, the #sens owned the most potential winning combinations on the last ball: OTT (x4), DET (x2), ANA (x1), NJ (x1), BUF (x1), Team A (x1), Team E (x1).

Team E hit on its only possible number at that point. The winning combination was 9-10-2-11.

But Team E in this instance is the Same as Team A, so they had the same shot as Detroit.

From Spector's page today:

NHL.COM: In a recent mailbag segment, Dan Rosen was asked about what type of contract Sam Reinhart might get from the Sabres. The 24-year-old winger is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.

Rosen suggests St. Louis Blues winger Jaden Schwartz as a comparable. While Schwartz is three years older, his rate of production during his early years was similar to Reinhart.

He signed a five-year, $26.75 million deal in 2016, with the annual average value ($5.35 million) representing 7.3 percent of the Blues’ cap hit at the time of the signing. A similar percentage for Reinhart would be about $6 million, though Rosen suggests there could be some wiggle room to be between $6-$7 million annually.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Despite the recent front-office changes, I don’t see the Sabres passing on re-signing Reinhart. It could be something between four and six years worth around $6.5 million annually.

just finished writing about that...methinks because of Covid-19 and the uncertainty moving forward with this season and next, as well as a minimal cap increase for 2022-23, we might be looking at a 3-4 yr. deal around $6M...

Sam could go to arbitration this year and get $6M and he could go next year as well landing maybe a little more and then hit free agency or he could go the 3-4 year route, grab himself a guaranteed an $18-24M-plus and hit unrestricted free agency smack dab in the middle of his prime

Only the 8 teams that lose the play-in round will be in the lottery for the 1st overall pick.

The 2nd through the 8th overall picks are already set after the first lottery.

Trade him to make cap space for Dahlin, Cozens, our 2 goalies, Oloffson, Joker, our pick this year, Mitts if he ever pans out, ect.
I’d Go to arbitration with him and let him get awarded a 1 or 2 year buy us some time

Does this not also give incentive to teams that shouldn’t be anywhere near the playoffs, like the habs, to lose the play in to get a shot at laf?
