You fail. There is a playin round and a round robin that will occur at the same time. The teams that are in the round robin are already qualified for the playoffs. The purpose of the round robin is to seed the teams already in the playoffs and give them some games so they aren't rusty and have to play against teams that just played a series to qualify for the playoffs. It makes perfect sense. Unless you are a complete moron.

pretty sure the lottery pick is already assigned to a slot

the question is what team gets that slot

Team A: 6.0%

Team B: 5.0%

Team C: 3.5%

Team D: 3.0%

Team E: 2.5%

Team F: 2.0%

Team G: 1.5%

Team H: 1.0%

so if team A won the pick, whichever team loses the play in round and had the worst regular season record, got the player

if team H won the pick the team with the best regular season record that lost the play in round, got it

- homiedclown

The above is wrong.

Team E's 2.5% odds won the 1st overall in the initial lottery.

The 8 teams that lose the play-in round will get the same 12.5% chance of winning the 1st overall pick, and that drawing will take place sometime between the end of the play-in round and the start of the 16 team playoff.

I'm rooting for the Blue Jackets to either win their series or win the pick.

You know how you have a poop system.

When there is a majority of the fanbase that has some sort of confusion about how that system works.

and you had a lottery, and still don't know what the hell is happening. And screwed A moarity of your teams over.

just read it, that part is f@cked up, it should have been determined from initial lottery based on odds for that slot

Nah every team that loses the play in round now has a better chance at the first pick than Buffalo did.

Montour at 5 is the 50th highest paid D-man.
Ullmarr at that is the 32nd highest paid goalie.

I could see them both getting those contracts.

I don't want Simmonds here either, but apparently the Sabres like him, now that could have changed with Botts leaving.

I really don't see RFA's getting the deals they think they are gonna get with the flat cap, especially with it locked in for 2yrs and then only going up maybe 2mill the 3rd year. Might see a lot of arbitration hearings.

It happens all the time though.

Teams move up huge leaps pretty much every year.

There should have been no 2.5% chance to begin with.

If I am Winnipeg i'm pissed. That pick should be theirs.

Usually, the team that moves up quite a bit ends up doing so for the 2nd or 3rd overall and not the 1st overall, but at least one team moves up every year.

It's been working out just like the NHL has wanted since they went with the new format of drawing for each of the first 3 picks.

Just because you and 1 other clueless poster had no idea what's going on, doesn't constitute "majority of the fanbase".

Yes and every year there is a clamoring for the NHL to change the lottery system.

They got mad that teams tanked for McDavid/Eichel, and were open about it.

They pouted and said fine we will change the rules, and made it worse. Find me one NHL fan that likes the lottery system

It hasn't stopped teams from tanking, at all.

If you want to have a lottery, take the lottery and move it back to you can only move up a maximum of 4 spots or do a top 5 only lottery for all 5 picks.

If it weren’t for the Sens having two top 5 picks, the “play-in” lotto odds would have been the highest in the NHL.

Sure the team E had a 2.5% chance but if you add up the odds of the 8-15 slot of teams in the play in round you can see the bigger picture.

Then on top of that those same said 8-15 teams now each have a 12.5% chance of winning the lotto.

I don’t know why anyone is surprised this was the outcome. Just have to add up percentages.

it was higher than 2.5% though.. because anyone of those letters had to come up.. you add up all those percentages and its north of 20% odds

That's what makes zero sense. A team that had a less than 2.5% chance to win the lottery didn't win the lottery, now has a 12.5% chance to win the lottery
