Tyler Cameron: 10 little things I miss In a normal season, the NHL would be wrapping up the Stanley Cup Finals and fans would have their excitement shifting towards the awards, entry draft, and free agency.

Well, this isn't a normal year.

Obviously, I miss the games themselves, however, this list is more of the way the complimentary hockey activities and hockey content that I've yearning for these days.

Here they are in no particular order:

While the playoffs are always exciting to watch, I also miss the exciting yet frenetic time after the Stanley Cup through Opening Day:

Pre- and post- draft chatter as well as tracking round 1 on that Friday and rounds 2-7 on Saturday. The F5 button to refresh webpages was in full force.

Pre- and post- free agency chatter as well as the free agency period, especially the first day on July 1. Again, the F5 button was getting quite the workout.

Prospect camp, Traverse City tourney, and training camp.

Even the August 15 deadline for NCAA free agents is something I always await.

Although not a big loss, will be interested to see which team Ryan Shea signs with after parting ways with the Hawks.

The games themselves, especially the tournament.

The best / most exciting two minutes in sports: any game with a team with a one-goal lead and two minutes left. Much more exciting than any old horse race.

What don’t I miss?

Cornelisson....

I miss all the great trade proposals.

I miss the arguments on the baker vs ingredients (Coach's system vs players)

Mostly, I miss the start of a third period in a tied or one goal elimination game. Likely nothing better in sports.

I've seen this from a couple of posters. What is so bad about Cornelisson? He's just the guy who sings the Anthem.

The build up to the draft. Who might be coming or going? I know school's out and the summer weather is just around the corner. But when you have Alice Cooper screaming, Schools Out (for summer) now u feel like screaming about no entry draft until Sept or later. They will conduct the draft and then is there going to be a fast and curious free agent window of opportunity.. This covid19 and future game attendance has me wondering if Saad is jettisoned sooner than we had figured.

We have the proverbial $64,000 questions before us but nowadays it is more like the $6.4 million question. Given the state of the NHL economy maybe it is more than $6.4 million per team which is the rage coming among ownership. Well they do get some money with expansion coming although that is relief after the sure to be downward moving revenue in the time frame present up to the expansion

I have this re -occurung thought that we beat Edmonton then draft around #19. Next we trade up a couple spots to take Lundell. Whom replaces Saad. Kind of disapointing

Sage is a contrarian. FFS, he likes the lounge singer that used to do the anthem in Boston. Rancourt.

Rene Rancourt - you need both names to get the full effect. It was like he entered a time machine in 1962 LasVegas and was transported to 21st century Boston.

Cornellison makes the thing all about him - slow cadence, bombastic vocals, the only person I ever saw wearing his Cup ring every game nite, then dramatically throwing his hand to the flag on “...that our flag was still THERE!!!!”

The very ideal of phony patriotism.

Tancourt wasn't good enough for Vegas. He made his living toiling on Mannheim road.

Darling was pretty good there for a couple of games - giving Crawford time to get his game back.

Miss 1) going to a bar packed with Hawks fans with my friend who introduced me to the team and both of us getting so worked up about a close game that we almost break our hands smacking them onto one of those old-timey thick wooden bar ledges, or on nights in 2) doing a real time chat during the games with several Hawks fans - all women - around the world with whom I've become online friends.

Reading this now, and just realized that for all we talked about the miles on Duncs and Seabs, in particular, and how that was probably to blame for their declining performance, we rarely mentioned Hossa. He was in FIVE finals + that WC final in quick succession and you'd not have known. What a rock. Love the agreement he made with his wife before the 2010 championship.

I know the virus is still around and always will be but I'm back playing. Rinks in Indiana are open. We've been playing for a month. Illinois is way behind

Really? That's great.

I really miss being on the ice. I have this pesky knee cap that won't stay in place though. On the list to have surgery. Hoping a couple years from now I'm playing again.

Perhaps you might recall the details or could research the rehab a couple of Blackhawks partook back in the 1990's. They speeded up recovery from - was it knee issues or otherwise - when they went in the air tanks that kid's use for jumping around. The aiir.is comprised part helium or something? Seriously it may have been Chellios and or Roenick. There may also be quicker healing when you have a joint in the water. Someone surely knows about this and I just mention it if it might help with the kneecap.

Botteril out in Buffalo.

Miss sports in general, but playoff hockey would be great. Til then F1 series is supposed to start up 4th of July weekend. Guessing there aren’t many F1 fans here or in the states in general but have usually enjoyed that series.

Thanks again for another insightful blog Ty!

Also, as much as I think another top 10 pick helps the Hawks, would be interesting if they could win their play in vs the Oil. If they do bow out and pick top ten, pick BPA, though no goalie please.

Hoping they grab a forward but if the BPA is a dman, take him and sort things out later.

I think the Hawks will take either Lundell, Askarov or Quinn (assuming the usual suspects are taken).

Tyler have any idea who will be the next president of hockey operations will be? Maybe a blog about that be a good read and possible candidates for the job. Recently heard a rumor the Eddie O wants out of the booth and get involved in hockey operations for a team. Maybe as a gm or in charge of hockey side of a team's operations. Do you Tyler think he be a good choice for either role for the hawks?

Buffalo is simply crazy.

Less the 3 weeks ago the owner petulant gave a statement that "Botterill was staying no matter what the fans thought...that "we" information that backs why we are staying committed to Jason (Botterill)."
"We have a little bit more information than maybe a fan does, some inner workings that we see some positives in.”
Then Jack Eichel came out with these whining statements, and you know from all I have about this kid is that players on the team felt he hasn't really embraced the captaincy and been a captain like all the other captains they have experienced in the NHL. That players thought there was a pretty good player thought of as a possible franchise player who hadn't completely stepped up yet.

Then today Botterill is gone.

I have no vested interest one way or another but the part that looks bad is the time line...

This move doesn't make or break the Sabres because they are already broken.

But not so sure firing the GM is a good move when the league has gone dark.

Blackhawks looking to get younger
Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times: The Chicago Blackhawks plan on trying to “innovate and change some things” from how they’ve operated in past offseasons according to GM Stan Bowman. In the past offseasons, they’ve replaced aging players with equally aging free agents. So, look for the Blackhawks to try and get younger this offseason.

Anyone else think McDonough was against this, and that is the reason he was fired?

So... looking at the elders on the team:
Seabrook
Keith
Kane
Toews
Crawford
de Haan
Smith
Saad
Carpenter

If what was reported is correct, we'll see who is willing to waive to be traded. Otherwise, moving the bottom 5 on this list doesn't really move the needle that much, but who knows. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
