I wonder about people's opinions on this decision of 24 team playoff format.

Do you want a higher pick or do you want playoff experience? I'm leaning towards playoff experience.

We are a step closer. NHLPA has approved the 24 team tourney it would appear.

Almost can't wait for the games to start and this board getting back to complain about Colliton's line match ups, Keith playing the point on the PP, Saad not converting scoring opportunities, bone headed plays by Nylander or Koekkoek, and Strome's and Maataa's lack of speed.

Did I miss anything?

"Playoff" experience. Even if its a weird system. DeBrincat has no playoff games right ?
Play some high stakes hockey. Lets go.

Everything that I've read says the Hawks are in the 24 team playoff, so I guess it's playoff experience by default. I'm ok with either, but if they could have gotten lucky again to get a top 3 pick, I would go with that. If they stayed around 9 or 10, I'll go with the experience.

I'd say Seabrook is the mentor. Keith is a great example of what can be accomplished with hard work. And having kids try and keep pace with him would be helpful in judging the kids as far as who will give the extra effort and factoring that info into the hawks future plans.

It was a poorly worded question. Meant more as which would you have preferred to happen between the two.

This is not the playoffs ,this bettman desperate grab for more money for him and the owners. I would not be surprised to see it all get shut down midway through or before it even get's started . Would not be surprised to see All Star Game caliber hockey . With a fake championship award to one of bettmans pet teams

I would rather the "Top 7" pick and skip the tourney. But, now that it seems for certain we are in it. Guess I will just look forward to the series vs the Oilers and hope the Hawks fare well. Oilers are beatable....neither team has much of a defensive scheme. Should be entertaining and a few goals. If we can get some goaltending...we just might get into the "Dance" of 16.

I would rather the high pick, as I see us going nowhere. But, on the other hand, be nice to see a few more Hawk games right about now. Go Hawks!!!

I expect all star types of games until the finals or semis. Then they will wake up and realize somebody's names are going to get engraved on the cup may as well be mine.

It seems a mute point for teams who win a play-in series or even the first series in the real dance.

MAYBE they will limit the new one lotto ball pull, and that ball gets you a 4 slot jump for ONLY the seven teams who didn't "qualify" to the cover Cup playoff.

But even if not, the hawks pick even if they win a play in and a series doesn't CHANGE or mov e them out of slot NINE, since under past practice, teams that lost in the first round ddn't suddenly drop into higher slots and the winners going up in slots...the current rules to draft slotting are the following:

Draft ORDER:
First the teams that didn't make the playoffs (before it was 16 lottery teams)
and then the order follows the rules in place:

The Draft - these were the past rules for draft order
The teams that did not qualify for the playoffs the previous season (picks 1– 16 now 1-7)

The teams that made the playoffs in the past season but did not win either their division in the regular season or play in the Conference Finals go next (before that picks 16–23 up to 27) now it is teams in standing slots 8 through 23 up to 27)

SO THE HAWKS Pick is not altered by a play-in win or a play-in win plus a first round win...Getting to the Conference Final would raise the draft slot...

Continuing to pst the in place Draft rules:
The teams that won their divisions in the previous season but did not play in the Conference Finals (potentially picks 24–27)
The teams that lose in Conference Finals (picks 28 and 29)
The team that was the runner-up in the Stanley Cup Finals (pick 30)
The team that won the Stanley Cup in the previous season (pick 31)

The hawks COULD be a team that loses in conference final Stanley Cup final or is winner and THAT would change their draft.

These extra play-in games cannot be added to the regular season standing percentages because they do not LEVEN out the amount of games played by all the teams playing in that play-in...

He and whoever played in Rockford can be called up as a Black Ace, since the Cap disappears as a deterrent during the playoff.

READ MY POST 2 above yours....unless they win the initial play-in and the first round and a second series when there are one of eight teams left, they keep slot nine...

Bring it on I say. Get Hagel, Carlsson and Beaudin in the line up and roll with them in addition to the more established younger guys. Let them feel what the playoffs are all about.

I don't think it changes the Hawks draft position but I haven't seen how that will work. That is probably one of the issues that need to be decided.

Good point regarding Keith. Teams need players who will challenge the young players and show them what it takes to be successful at the NHL level.

Kane has done this for a few seasons with the forwards.

9th would be fine with me ,that is the most likely landing spot for Askarov . Now as long as the Hawks stay on script .

Over the past few years in their own zone Hawks have been practicing social distancing given the amount of high danger chances they give up.
