Thanks Todd. I’ve been wondering what was up with Ty, so appreciate the blog
Looks like he’ll be a nice addition to the blue line this year with the big boys! |

He plays left side or right side ???
Maybe we get a big vet UFA like Braden Dillion to play along side of him ? |

Thanks for the news Todd. And Congratulations to Ty Smith!!!!!! Again!!!!! |

This team needs Ty Smith and some defensive help in the worst way.
Right now we only have PK, Severson, Butcher and Carrick under contract for next season. That's horrific. Dakota Mermis, Fredrik Claesson and Mirco Mueller are all free agents. Mirco is restricted. |

Ty Smith is awesome. Had a great year and if they happen to snag Drysdale in the draft, not bad. |

It should also be said.. there's no crime in sending a fringe kid back to juniors or wherever. Sometimes the greater good is greater. |

He’s no fringe kid & nothing more to learn in Jr it’s the AHL only unless it stays shut down then it’s the NHL. |

1) Did anyone else have issues loading Todds post earlier ?
2) Who do you think has a higher ceiling Ty Smith or Bowam Byram.
They both play in the same league. |

This is about projections over their careers. I believe most talent scouts would answer Byram because of his physical toolkit. But I am happy we have Ty. |

We sent him back the last two years. He's 20 and should be ready.
I agree with your point but it would seem to be more relevant to having rushed Jack Hughes then Ty Smith who we've been patient with. Which is not to say some time in the AHL would be awful for either kid. |

And if he doesn't quite make it as a 6 or 7 d-man, can always just put pads on him and he'd bump Schneider down the depth chart |

This is true while there is still something to be gained in juniors. He's ready for the NHL even if it means he has to grow into it. |

I don't mean Smith. I mean the handful of other guys we rushed. Smith is an example of how sending a kid back could absolutely benefit him. |

what's wrong with finishing the regular season, having a normal playoff, and starting next year 2 months after the playoffs end? I don't see what is so terrible about this idea. This revised bracket is asinine to me. Just have a brief 1-week "camp", finish the darn season, and move right into the playoffs. That can begin in July if need be.. Playoffs would finish when.. September? regular season begins in November. |

The problem is time. Some teams have only played 68 games. So they are 14 games away from completing a full season. IF they played every other night your looking at a month of hockey to get the teams seeded for the playoffs. Factor in a week or two for training camp and this has to go on for 1 1/2 to 2 months before we get to the playoffs; because the NHLPA won't even let them play that many games that frequently. AND if there is a COVID outbreak among any teams the playoffs are in the dumper.
It seems safer to try and jump right into a playoff format. By increasing the number of teams it makes it 'fair' to teams on the playoff bubble.
Frankly if they taking everyone except Buffalo, NJ, Ottawa and Detroit in the East and Anaheim, LA, and San Jose in the West they have included every team with even a remotely legit chance to have made the playoffs if they played out the season. |

I would accept that but I would prefer something like this: Let each team play a few games to get them up to 75 games total. That means at most teams would have seven games that could be spread out over about 16-17 days. Have the normal number of playoff teams, but make the first two rounds five game series instead of seven. The average playoff series is something like 5.6 games long so you aren't losing a lot. What it does is it allows the league to schedule the next round with a more definitive and earlier start. It's not perfect but this season isn't perfect either. |

what's the problem with time? They can bump the start of next season to November.

Because the league has to get thru this without an Covid outbreak while keeping all the players locked down (to some unspecified degree). Nobody has any desire to extend that to play out a regular season that means nothing. |

November wouldnt be an option and is completely out of the question if they wanted to play out the regular season. With this current setup they're planning, they're already talking about the start of next season not being until December, and thats without finishing the regular season.
