Not sure why people thinks that means the Devils are passing on Gallant. He's allowed to say no to the job. Also, if I was a coach waiting for a job I'd want to know when and where I'm actually working.

Don't think its been said anywhere that the Devils or Gallant passed on the job. Im just not a fan of John Stevens being interviewed. There are so many better options out there.

Hey there. Not trying to take over your conversation with CHI problems, but there is a parallel. A lot of people in Chicago are anxious to ax Colliton and hire a new coach, so there have been untold numbers of options thrown out.

What do you not like about Stevens? What are your key needs in a new coach, and does Gallant (or anyone else) fill those needs?

Its just an interview but he's definitely an underwhelming candidate.

You guys should have kept Q.

What we don't like about Stevens is our franchise is a tire fire and we'd like to hire an established and previously successful NHL Coach. Most of us are done with guys who are learning on the job...

I haven't heard anything but I am getting nervous it isn't going to happen.

My guess is Gallant doesn't want to come here. There is no reason for the Devils to wait on offering him a contract.

There are arguments for and against. I don't think he is the right coach for what the Hawks have on the roster right now (especially with the number of young players that are here or soon to come). Q is great with guys that not only understand, but completely buy into his system. With the ocean of mediocrity we have in our bottom six, and the young guys like Strome and DeBrincat that free wheel a bit more, that whole system would fall apart in quick order.

Everyone thought he lost his mind during the playoffs where a call didn't go the Hawks way and he grabbed his crotch? Just wait until he has 4-5 forwards on the team that play defense like Kane.

You might be completely right. Sometimes it is time for a change and sometimes the situation requires it. I just have a lot of respect for Q. And not just because he was a first year NJ Devil.

Stevens is a good assistant coach and does wonders for the defense and PK of teams that he works for. He just doesn't seem to be able to transition that success to the head coaching position. I'd consider him for an assistant job, but not for the bench boss.

Exactly, We have been through to many new coaches with little to no HC experience. Like the article says if we are going to try another coach with little experience why not stick with Naz. The players know and like him. I am in no way trying to say keep Naz.
