Why is it that no one is talking offer sheets? Clearly Tampa, Toronto, NYI are vulnerable to an organized OS campaign. Offer to one RFA. If it is matched offer to a 2nd on the same team. Then a 3rd. For example, $8M to Sergachev, then $6.4M to Cirelli, then $4.2M to Cernac. No loss of players. Tampa has about $6M in cap. They could not dump enough salary to cover even the Cirelli offer. We would need to get our 2nd pick back from Vegas to do the $8M for Sergachev but that should be doable.
Mikheyev should be possible from TO. NYI can't withstand a similar program for Barzal, Pulack and Toews.

First off, because GM's don't generally like doing that to other GMs. Not because of the conspiracy theory but because it's a poisonous way to do business in a small sealed community.

Secondly, NJ seems to have little stomach for spending money anyway; regardless of the cost in draft picks.

While there might be some opportunity for NJ to leverage their cap space to some benefit it is also possible the NHL makes some accommodation for teams with cap difficulties next year. I mean sure, the Devils got screwed for circumventing the spirit of the salary cap but that was years ago. Now the league seems fine on allowing other teams to have a good amount of room to maneuver with a fair amount of impunity.

If the Devils did what Toronto does we'd be crucified. Toronto isn't giving away anybody and keeps signing people. They'll just make it work somehow. Probably push another stiff onto LTIR.

@Queenie,

Not sure the Leafs have many stiffs?

Tavares? Maybe in a year or 2/3

I wouldn't mind getting Kapanen, but really hope we don't sell the few assets we have in terms of prospects. Add a young blueliner like Barrie as a UFA. We used our cap last year and it bit us in hindside, for PK. It would be nice if we could pry Jesse P from Edmonton for .10 on the dollar and really get a nice young group to develop together.

Let's not go down the rabbit hole of offer sheets. they rarely happen and it is just a waste of time to even discuss. Next collective bargain, they have to fix that. It takes all the fun of off season b/c it limits the marketplace on talent significantly. The ransom of draft picks is absurd. NBA has a much better business model.

Yes! Him and Palms would finally give us two true RW's. But you think the Leafs would prefer to shed Kapanen's friendly 3.2M AAV, or Nylanders 7M???

I'd rather we used all our picks on players this year, we tried this last year and it didn't exactly work out

I'm sure it's not true but if it happens it would be a nice pick up.

Probably

But I wouldn’t take nylander, I’m not a fan of his game.

They’ll sign him, let him play 5 games, press box him for 10 and then send him to the ahl.

His other rumored connections are Rags, Pens and Montreal. He also played and speaks with Kakko (per multiple media reports). Gee, I wonder where he will end up?

I would take Nylander in a heartbeat. But Toronto probably wants to shed Marner's contract most of all.

In my opinion, what happened to the Devils with the Kovalchuk was complete nonsense. They did nothing wrong but were made an example of for taking advantage of a loophole. With that being said, neither is Toronto. They are using the CBA rules just like any other team is.

I seriously doubt that. Marner is pretty much untouchable.

I hope so, because at that salary cap hit he is an anchor.

I guess you can build a team out by picking through other teams’ trash.

It’s not a way to build a winning team...but whatever.

You don't think the way to win a building team is to get good players for less than they're worth?
