Nooo, Gallent needs to go to Detroit!! |

If you don't have room to keep Scott Stevens in the organization when Hynes came in I don't see how you keep Nasreddine if Gallant comes in. You need to let him pick his bench; unless the idea is to have Nas in the Bing. |

All in on Gallant. Would like to hear who else they have in the pipeline, but Gallant was my #1 choice when he became available. Say thanks to Naz and let him land somewhere else. |

Nas did a decent job given the situation, I'd feel bad for him if it's a trip back to the AHL. I think somebody in the league would be interested in him as an assistant somewhere. |

I'd like Boudreau for the team. It'd be incredible to have a veteran coach to get this team to compete, and it seems like he would be a great agent for improving the biggest crater-like hole in our gameplay - Defense.

Hey, if you are bored I found this site through the Athletic for your own mockdraft for NFL - but they have NHL also. Their rankings are a little old, they told me they would be updating in a week. It was fun for a while...

I don’t get the idea that Nas did a decent job. Nothing changed at all when he took over. They made the same mistakes they had been making prior to the coaching change. The offense got worse even before the trades. He made baffling personnel decisions that only Hynes would appreciate. They only won games when Blackwood carried hem to victory. Benching Bratt, sticking Hughes on LW, trotting out Hayden and Rooney...all reasons it can’t be Nas next year. |

What I like about Gallant is his defensive strategy for trying to keep the defenders minutes in the first period as closed to a minute on rotation as possible, that system was so good it enabled Jon Merrill to be a some what viable defender. |

They went 19-16-8 under Nas. They went 9-13-4 under Hynes with a litany of spectacular collapses and Taylor Hall in the lineup.... Not to mention the other trades and of course the deeper into the season things went the more injuries took their toll. So Nas had a lot of times without Vats and was rolling a horrifically weak defense including Carrick, Mueller, Fredrik Cleasson and Dakota Mermis; not to mention if you watched the games the quality of play was clearly better and the team was on a tear going 6-2-2 in their last 10 games. So I don't even see how it's debatable if the team improved. Yes Blackwood was a big help but it's naïve to think it's 'just goaltending'. And I say this as someone who really didn't like Nasreddine and thought Shero (who I did like) gave us all a giant FU when he fires Hynes and put Nas in charge.
That said, there were certainly a few concerning things about how Nas ran the team and the examples you gave are the best ones.... BUT while benching Bratt was a complete head scratcher (although I think it was one game so not a huge deal), trying Huges at LW wasn't a bad a idea. It just didn't work at all and Nas stuck with it way too long. But just continuing to trot out a clearly struggling Jack Hughes at 2C wouldn't have been great coaching either. Something had to be done.
The bottom line is we both agree the team needs to get a new coach. To me the fatal flaw with Nas is he is going to be running basically the same system we've been running for the last few years under Hynes with a few changes. The style of play (mostly offensively) did change a bit. They seemed to get away from the Hynes dump but don't chase offense and managed some better attack time. But overall it's time for a new direction and this team NEEDS an established and successful NHL coach. There are too many question marks in this organization and you can't have that behind the bench. |

It is hard to feel bad for Nas, considering he never interviewed and was hired as a head coach. This was a great learning experience and he was able to show he deserves to be groomed as a head coach. I don't think he was ever an AHL or OHL head coach and that might be where he should finish his development. Option #2 is rejoining Hynes in Nashville.
I really like the idea of Gallant, get this team back to fast and attacking. The only question relevant to who gets hired, is how will you get Hughes to play as a world-class center for this organization. Nico seems to have come along great, despite coaching hurdles. You get Hughes going, both the wings on his lines will be producing. Build a defense around youth and a FA or 2 and we are a middle-pack team and out of the cellar. |

I agree. Naz has had surprising success since taking the lead role, but Gallant has nothing but praise from former players, and he knows how to win. We'd be lucky to bring that stability behind our bench. |

i'm trying not to be unnecessarily negative and think Detroit will get him because Detroit is Detroit, even though they've had a rough stretch. But we have.. NY!.. that's currently shutdown for the foreseeable future. |

I have to feel for Gallant a little bit here. Nobody wants to go from exciting Las Vegas to living in Detroit or Newark! |

To be honest, and it is only my opinion, Jack Hughes was live at the lottery last year, saw NY, Chicago and NJ he looked excited and then seem to gloss over when it went to NJ. A 17 year old phenom with a chance at the big time cities, instead he got Newark. I am guessing that hurt a little. |

Gallant would pe a great choice for NJD ....
Baz is not getting a NHL coaching job so maybe he is offered a ASST. ??
And ELIAS ..and maybe STEVENS ???
Keep FITZ with Brodur as ASST.
JUne draft yes..Hopefully take all contingencies out , Work on stoppage date and winning percentages , and allow trades.
Devils have
6
10
17
All lottery eligible. If protected teams keep the pick...

Seriously? Just b/c you play for the Devils doesn't mean you live in Newark! only part of that town he will see is the stadium. He will go live in Hoboken or Jersey City and live just fine. Gomez actually lived in NYC and played for the devils.
It's not exactly a bad thing to get drafted by the 2nd wealthiest state in the country |

Its about playing in NY or Chicago vs. Newark. And yeah I would say if they had a choice most 17 year old stars would rather NY or Chicago (rather than Newark, Carolina, Arizona, etc...), again I said that was my opinion... |

I thought Jack was really a great sport at the draft and seemed happy to go to the Devils. I mean I know he's not really going to say anything negative but he didn't even say anything positive about NY as an alternate destination.
I'm not saying that's how he feels because (frank) if I know. And really with what happened to this team this year has to be hard on him; but it's not like Kakko went on to be a success story across the river.
My guess is he was excited at the draft and probably felt good about playing with Taylor Hall. Plus we then traded for PK Subban. So it seemed like a good situation.... until you know... we played the Jets and collapsed like a whore being punched in the stomach by a guy name Vito wearing a bunch of jewelry including a big pinky ring.
Welcome to New Jersey! |
