I hope Gio hits a wall next year. Actually, maybe go knee on knee and end his career. Dirty, dirty player.

Unfortunately Giordano is the type of player that may be done due to his age. No one is really talking about this realistically, but it's highly likely next season may not even happen.

There's a real chance we don't see professional sports until a vaccine is developed. That will optimistically be available June-September 2021.

It's a damn shame but we will likely see a bunch of older players struggle to come back with a year and a half (or more) off.

Assuming his next contract is a discount I could see Giordano playing a good couple more years.

His greatest asset isn’t his offensive abilities or skating. His strength is his hockey IQ, knowing where to be and breaking up plays from the other teams top players. Even as he gets older he could still be a better shutdown D man than many others throughout the league

I'm hoping if they don't play next year he still can come back and be effective, he's a hell of a defensemen.

But I also don't think it's terribly hard to see the writing on the wall in terms of the 2020/2021 season. A vaccine cannot arrive before 12 months from now due to the necessary trials that need to occur.

Without a vaccine, there is huge risk. Say it wanes and the numbers go down, great. But it still will be out there as it's simply too contagious and hard to detect when you're asymptomatic.

Imagine they play next season and a player tests positive. That team would need to quarantine, possibly other teams that played against them in the past few days. Think about what that would do the schedule and arena availability.

You probably arent wrong on this year for sure. As North America scrambles to flatten this curve, I would imagine the peak will hit sometime May & then cases will start to drop. Hopefully testing will be easier & quicker by then but people will still have to distance before the barn gates are reopened. I could actually envision the NHL & NHLPA to figure a way to get players, coaches, staff, etc. to play in empty buildings & house everyone in hotels surrounding a few strategically selected venues & have some kind of playoffs. Everyone involved will have to be away from family for a few months but at least they can play & games can be watched on TV by fans all over the world.

Would be a tall order but it could be done.

That's true and is the one scenario I could see next season happening. What I worry about there is the NHL dictating players would have to be isolated from their families for possibly many months. Will the NHLPA agree to that? I suppose it's possible, especially if they want to get paid.

Gio is today's games equivalent of Chris Chelios. Same type of game, similar size and they are both fitness animals.
Chelios played in the NHL until he was 45 and was a very effective player into his early 40's. I could see Gio playing 3-4 more years for sure.
