Jan Levine: Thoughts on Lias Andersson, Pavel Buchnevich and Filip Chytil Using Larry Brooks' column as a bridging off point

Currently the Rangers are utilizing 46 out of their allowed 50 max contracts. Andersson may have to be moved in a trade depending how the off-season progresses if only to take one of those valuable slots.
Its a shame , really, but I don't think he can just walk back into our locker room. We will never know the entire story, but I don't think he returns. He needs a fresh start somewhere else.
Maybe he is part of the package to Ottawa if we move Smith there.

Ever since Buch got over his sulking and babyness he’s been great. It was probably confidence and a little bit of growing up that he needed to do

Buch I wouldn't mind him staying as long as his salary is kept low, but wouldn't have an issue if he was traded in a package for something more. He is just too inconsistent to be a #1 winger.

Chytil worked his ass off this year coming back from the Pack. Need to keep grooming him to be the #2. Hopefully he is doing a lot of practice at the dot. Kid has a ton of skill, is now battling in the dirty areas and is tougher on the puck. And he is still only 20 years old.

I wonder whether the organization and the team have the same view of Lias as (most of) the fans do. It is easy to sour on the kid after all that went on this past season when you have never been in the same room with him or had a conversation.
Honestly, at his age I don't put a lot more thought into his tumultuous season than I would in that of any young prospect who didn't play with the parent club. Of course, more was expected of him than of a 20 year old who never had a sniff, but I don't see why he could never be a part of the team again if his recovery continues and skills progress.

Hey, they reached and selected the kid somewhat above his ranking based on his fiery spirit. Then they are to kick him to the curb for the same attribute?
I think we can all agree that despite his recent failings, the club and the coaches did not give him the best chance to succeed either.

And I don't like the way any of it went down. But, keep in mind that we don't know a damn thing. It was all third hand reports and speculation. The only thing we heard 1st hand was JD saying he reached out and got no response. Which was bullpoop on Andersson's part, for sure. But, we know nothing about how he got to that point. Actually, less than nothing. Because the fans went bananas and wrote the kid off as a selfish, lazy punk on nothing but gossip and rumour, with no hesitation to think maybe there was more to it.

Yeah, you are right none of us know. I was just going by his words and saying the cryptic thing about more coming out. If that wasn't alleged by him, I could see the Rangers working with him in whatever he was going through. I think he might have crossed a line by saying that.

Well again, its not the improvement, his play, etc. I think that can be worked through. He made a pretty serious allegation against the Rangers, which as far as I know, no player has ever made against the Rangers. I don't know how that just gets sweeped under the rug. imo

I get all youre saying, at that time I was eff him and buh bye too. But now I’d hate to see him flourish somewhere else and we have a forever minor leaguer for him

I think there would have to be some closed door apologies, etc. and maybe even a public one from Andersson to clear the air. I think people could easily forgive him if he just came out and said something like "I was playing injured, I thought I wasn't getting a fair chance and I was a teenager far from my home. I made some remarks when I was really down that I shouldn't have made."

Still torn on Lias. His throwing the silver led us to see him as a fierce competitor that wouldn't accept anything less than first, maybe even future Captain. His subsequent behavior makes me think he lacks maturity and seems to have that entitled mentality.
Hope I'm wrong and he ends up becoming a key part of this team. ADA had some issues that seem to have been resolved, maybe Lias can too.

Good point on Deangelo. Takes time for players to develop and part of development is maturity. As a person, not even a player. It’s to soon to give up on him
