Great point. Have always wondered the same thing. How many times does Darth have to post before people stop asking if he’s kidding or worse, replying to the post if it were real.

From the Athletic about the remaining defensemen available:

Wild-card rental: Chicago’s Erik Gustafsson hasn’t had a great year overall but he might just be the best option right now. He had eight points in 10 games in January. He’s playing well over 20 minutes a night for the Blackhawks and at least four teams have expressed interest in him in the midst of all the action this week. The Blackhawks will have no problem moving him if that’s what they decide to do, and the scarcity in the market could end up playing to their favor.

Get er done Stan!

Probably because Bowman wants a 1st round pick. WTG Stan, it's about time, you are letting the dust settle with all these Dmen trades, and now someone will be mega desperate and won't be thinking logically and we will get a haul for Gus.

Because of the laws of supply and demand?!?

It's right there in the Atlantic segment above. Gus is now thought to be the best available, which will drive up the return. I guess they could have traded him earlier, when more defensemen were available. Nobody here would've barked about that, eh?

Anyone who thinks they will get "a haul" for Gus bought way too much weed from the dispensary.

As usual, Stan overvalues his assets, asks for too much, misses chances to make deals, and watches the rest of the league pass him by.

Man, you fly off the handle quick. There is almost a week left to the deadline. What is the rush? If (god forbid) he is able to pry a 1st for Gus are you going to be mad about it? There is more to a trade than just “send this guy for that asset”.

Is a 7th sufficient return for Gus? Absolutely not, and fans would (and should) be irate if that was the return for him.

Ahh it pays to buy the best....Yes that might be true. Gus has serious defensive shortcomings sometimes, but when you look at how many trades already involved 2nd and 3rd round picks, and for WHO ?? Are those Dmen seriously better than Gus ? There is still 5 days to go and anything can happen. What do i hope for ? If Lehner dont sign, he is traded for a 1st. Gus is sent packing for a 2nd. We use OUR pick on C Marco Rossi, who looks like Kane but can take faceoffs and play defense. Then we package our picks from Lehner and Gus trades and move up and take G Askarov. How does THAT sound ? Sounds good to me.

He's not going to get a first for Gus.

Dillon went to the Caps for a second and a conditional third, DeMelo goes for a third, and Scandella for a second and a conditional fourth.

All three are better players than Gus - especially if your metric for a decent D man is actually playing defense. If you believe in markets and supply and demand, what does today's market say Gus is worth?

I would be surprised if we get a 1st for either goalie or a 2nd for Gus. But I was surprised when we got Caggiula and Garrison for Manning and Norell, when we got Kubalik for a 5th round pick, when we got a 1st a 4th and Edjsell for Hartman. Crazy things happen at the TDL.

Thank you for completely missing my point. The point I was making was that Stan could easily make a trade right for of Gus for a 7th, but that is horrible asset management. I have no delusions of Gus getting us a 1st, but you don’t trade him just to trade him. You maximize the asset.

He is one of the best of what is left. No one was going to beat down Stan’s door with an offer for Gus over one of the guys that was already moved. Not to mention teams are not all looking for the same type of player.

Of course I wasn't responding to you on this post, so there's that, to borrow a phrase.

I'm just curious where that part about agreeing to take a seventh for him was in anything I said or implied.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Gus and A- Prospect for 1st round pick and C+ Prospect.

Yeah you did... I’m Chunk.

Your original post, verbatim:

Lamenting that Stan misses chances to make deals. He COULD make a deal for Gus right now for a 7th. that is a bad idea considering the current market. Again, my point was that you maximize the return for the asset and not just make a quick trade to get rid of a player.
