Very good trades by NJ so far. Any chance Wood and Subban are traded?

Nice info on Foote. If they keep Palms, and Foote finds himself on Hughes' wing, it would be nice to see someone that can finish his passes. I just wonder how many points Hughes would have if he had some finishers on his line this year.

Wood is a possibility but won't get a good return but his play has improved but too inconsistent

Subban not a chance

The tank is on. The question is always, will they use it properly, or just go on a redundancy quest like most other teams get trapped into. Good moves so far however.

Does Fitz have incriminating info on Brisbois or Lou...

Because he just absolutely robbed them both...

Greene is pylon masquerading as a Dman.. he'll get blown by every time he has to go up against a decent forward with speed...

As for Coleman ... wow ... a 1st and Foote.. Damn...

What player in their early to mid 20’s would a team be willing to give up a 1st round pick for though?

Dave Queenville is a nice addition as well.
Great job by Fitzgerald.
I hope he stays around for a spell.
Shrewd moves.

I'll agree a little bit on Greene, i feel the game has passed him by as a top 4 d-man and in my eyes was more like a 6-7 defenseman......as for Coleman, it was a great return but I see why Tampa did this trade, first, as a player, Coleman is very under-rated on what he brings. It's not just offense but his defense is unmatched by most forwards, he's a great if not one of the best in hockey as a penalty killer, he has speed, plays with an edge and the bonus is he's on the best bargain contract in hockey with another year remaining and that's exactly what fits perfect with Tampa. Tampa paid a premium for a premium fit for them.

I love Coleman... when we traded Vats I wanted him instead of Rico... although Rico has been nails for us..

Just didn't think he'd garner a 1st and that good of a prospect.. Helluva job by Fitz.

Your 100% right and that's what Fitz said after the trade was made, he wasn't shopping him (Coleman) but when somebody offers a package that has their 2019 1st rd pick top prospect 19yr old 6'4" forward in Foote and a 1st rd pick you listen and think hard .....he did and made the trade!

Todd this was a great analysis of a trade from an objective perspective. It was refreshing not to have a blatant homer go on and on about how great his teams players are and how they all are worth 1st round picks. A nice article on how the trades helped both teams. I wish you wrote articles about the Jets.

I don't have a problem with this trade. If Coleman helps push the Bolts over the top to a Cup, then nobody on the Tampa side will be complaining. Sure, the price was high for the Lightning, but that is the current market. Other teams were interested, including the Bruins - who the Bolts will have to get past on the way to a Cup. Denying the Bruins the services of Coleman is worth something extra.

I think both teams will end up being happy with this trade. I'd much rather Coleman over Greene.

I think we were more worried that the returns on out players were going to be poop, so trading them for nothing just to clear players wasn't wanted. Now that we're getting real nice assets, I think most will be happy with the trades.

The Devils did pretty good on this one. Basically two first round picks for a Top-6 guy. That's a pretty decent return. I would trade anyone in our middle-6 for that return.

Yeah totally can’t complain about these moves. It will probably hurt in the immediate term but this has to be done.

We suck so much as is, it's not like it can get that much worse. Next season it'll hopefully open up a lot of space for the young guys to play so even if we suck we get to see them develop.

Greene was a very good player (not now) and is a great guy (hence our captain) but right now Coleman is lightyears better. It's a guy in his prime killing it on a horrible team vs. a defender who's career is winding down.

Bolts paid a lot but Coleman is outstanding with an uncommon skill set. Great two way player. Great penalty killer. Dangerous with the puck and great secondary scoring. Shorthanded monster. Hard worker with a great attitude. Just the type of guy anyone would want on their team. Plays hard and gets penalized a bit but forces other players to take penalties trying to stop him. Wish him nothing but the best and hope he's successful with you guys. He seems like the type of player Tampa needs for the playoffs; although obviously he hasn't had much playoff experience because we stink.

Challenge of the day, find someone who thinks both these trades arent wins for NJ. I am still shocked on the returns. Great job Fitz!

Not sure if anybody was listening but Fitz was just on Sportsnet 590 radio, and pretty much confirmed he's not done.

"Starting yesterday, and through the rest of the deadline, there's going to be some more moves."

Also reiterated what he said last night that hes not calling teams on his players, but letting teams call him and going from there. And when asked particularly about Subban and Palmieri he responded by saying nobody is off the table

I'd think for any type of return on Subban we'd have to retain half his salary; which is fine. Palms has to be a Coleman-esq return. YUGE! Vats is the guy we need to move and need a first rounder.

Good Luck Fitz. He sounds confident he's moving people for someone not calling anybody....

at least we can still comfortably root for Tampa/Coleman since our pick isn't connected to them.
We'll also cross our fingers either Foote or that 1st round pick will amount to a better player than Coleman is now and will be in the next 5 years of his career.

.. same goes for Palmieri, who I'm not really down for trading.

Perhaps if Nico or Jack was a McJesus/Matthews, we'd be doing more building instead of tearing down. The thing is, we're likely not going to be drafting a franchise player this year or next, unless we win the lottery... which is why I think it makes a bit of sense to keep 30 goal scorers with 5 years left of being able to hit that mark. We're selling in hopes of what, drafting/developing an 80pt forward? probably not going to happen.

idk. we'll see what happens. We'll see what Jack turns into. We'll see what the Footes, Merkleys, Boqvists turn into. Nico should have another productive offseason and hopefully be the 70pt center we hope for.

I guess a team with several 20-30 goal scorers could still be a good team.. just look at Columbus. .. who probably won't be winning anytime soon.

Almost every poster on every Devils Facebook group is crying over one or both. I started replying but got the sensation of beating my head against a wall. We may have the dumbest fan base there is.

Man the fan in me hates seeing a homegrown player be traded but I must admit that is a great return for just Blake Coleman..very impressed with fitz..like ray he seems to have a grasp on getting good value out of players (a 2nd for greene!!)..and Foote is the exact type of prospect nj should try to get, big strong physical and most importantly a goal scorer for nico and jack to pass to..however Tampa didn't totally lose this trade they are going to love number 20
