I seriously was waiting for that to happen. He looked nervous. His confidence must be REALLY low. |

He had quite the sour puss on his face afterward, too. I know you're not supposed to celebrate an EN goal at 4-1, but he looked like he was about to throw up. At least the game tape will exonerate him for his penalty. |

Pens played a good first two periods, really sat back in the third and thankfully Jarry bailed them out. Overall a good game. Glad Zucker got a couple. ZAR is the worst shooter on the team. |

Good info.
So you're estimating that we would have only $3.5M (+ cap increase) to sign both Murray and a bottom pair RD? In that case, I doubt Murray takes $3.5M (the increase in cap would likely be wiped out by 3RD). Or we fill 3RD from within (Riikola?) and spend the rest of the cap on Murray? But if we buy out JJ (I'm skeptical) then Riikola becomes 3LD and we still need a 3RD hopefully not named Ruhwedel.
I guess we can lowball Murray or take it to arbitration and hope the number isn't more than the cap we have or we'll have to trade / buyout / waive someone else. Also, isn't arbitration binding and for 2 years? This would help with the expansion draft anyway.
Here is a list of the pending FA goalies who have posted better numbers than Murray this year (with save% and current cap hit):
Corey Crawford - 0.911 - $6,000,000
Robin Lehner - 0.921 - $5,000,000
Jacob Markstrom - 0.918 - $3,666,668
Thomas Greiss - 0.916 - $3,333,333
Cameron Talbot - 0.924 - $2,750,000
Jaroslav Halak - 0.921 - $2,750,000
Anton Khudobin - 0.928 - $2,500,000
Mike Smith - 0.904 - $2,000,000
Aaron Dell - 0.909 - $1,900,000
Ryan Miller - 0.909 - $1,125,000
Pavel Francouz - 0.925 - $950,000
Surely one of these guys will be available for cheap. Murray is .911 for the past 3 seasons. I think we can do better for cheaper. - Hockey66
Good points. I don't like all the guys on that list, but there would be some good options that are cheaper. Of course, the Pens would just go with DeSmith.
It's been a while since arbitration, so I'm not sure exactly, but Murray would make sure if he doesn't get the big deal he gets one year even if that means just signing his QO which would come around 4M.
I guess it comea down to how you feel about Murray. I think it can fit and I kind of like having the tandem so I'd consider it. Next year's team doesn't have any expensive weaknesses so it's a luxury they can afford and then give that cap space to Marino, Blueger, and ZAR's raises the following year. |

It is amazing how set this team is for the two years following this season. The goalie situation is the biggest unknown and really the only tricky calculation other than who to lose in the expansion draft. JR has done well managing the cap, with just a few minor overpayments (Horny, JJ, Tanev). Of course, we are always up against the cap without much wiggle room (or room for error), but I like our roster construction more than most, if not any other.
How do I feel about Murray? I go back and forth, but mostly I'm for not paying him and moving on. I think Jarry is the future and I only want to pay serious money for one goalie. Good cheap vet backups are always around. I would rather spend the money elsewhere, like 3C or a defenseman. |

McCann
Kahun
Simon
Lafferty
Riikola
Schultz
Jarry
Murray
Those guys will need new contracts...I expect at least 2-3 of them will be gone, one being Murray (unless he’s ready to share the money with Jarry to stay together as a tandem).
McCann $3-3.5M for 2/3 years
Kahun $3-3.5M for 2/3 years
Simon $2.5-3M for 2/3 years
Lafferty $0.85M-1M for 2/3 years
Riikola $1M for 2 years
Schultz WALK (I’d sign him for $3M, 3y)
Jarry $2.5-3M for 2 years
Murray TRADED (For top 4 D or top 6 W)
This is just me being kind.. |

There's a big different between having a bad shot and just not being able to bury it. Simon has a good shot and just can't bury it. Dumo doesn't have a bad shot. In fact he has quite a heavy shot; he's just not accurate. ZAR's shot is just plain mud. There's just no velocity to it.
EDIT:
Simon = Good shot, not a good shooter
Dumo = Decent Shot, not a good shooter
ZAR = Bad shot, bad shooter |

McCann and POJ for Tatar and Scandella. Murray for Bowey. Caps 2nd, SJs 3rd, Wings 2021 2nd in the summer. |

Wrong. Any time he actually shoots or scores a goal everyone(commentators and fans alike) are like, "why doesn't he use that shot more often?" |

Truth. He has a terrible shot and he gets quite a few opportunities to show it during games.
It’s really the only knock on him. |

He's definitely not a skilled shooter, but when he gets a quality shot off it's a solid shot. |

I don't ever recall seeing a real heavy clapper from Dumo. Just a mediocre(by NHL standards) inaccurate one haha |

Great news on both fronts. My guess is Bjugstad is not ready before the deadline though. |
