A Russian and a goalie with a Top 10 pick? You are out of your mind.

My pick as of today. Stutzle. Raymond. Rossi and maybe Lundell

- Elbows15

He'll be the best player available at their position and he addresses a need. It's a no-brainer.

Like Caufield, he will not be drafted by the Hawks.

The Hawks have given up 188 goals so far. Only six teams have given up more. For perspective, they are in a tightly bunched pack, and are 8 goals against from 13th in the league.

One of the teams below the Hawks, are your Florida Panthers with 198. That works out to 3.41 per game. Last year they gave up 280, which is.....3.41 per game. Gotta be the fault of the new coach and the "system" he is trying to install. Or the GM who put the team together. Wait, what's that you say? Dale is the GM, and Q is the coach? (frank)ing idiot players......

If that happens its only because the Hawks have an inept GM.

If we can build up our forward depth, I would like to see Carp, Highmore, and Caggiula on the 4th line.

Lafreniere, Toews, Kubalik
Saad, Dach, Kane
ADB, Strome, Nylander
Caggiula, Carpenter, Highmore

Nylander has begun to look a little better of late. I am expecting him to take a step up next year.

Maybe Kampf as the 13th forward.

- -Doh-

Lol would be amazing to get the top pick but I bet we end up with Perfetti later in the top 10

Let’s go back the last 7 games, cherry picked to ignore the offensive outburst against Calgary - 1-4-2=4 points.

12 goals scored in those 7 games, distributed by period as follows:

AZ - win - 2 (1st and 2nd)
MI - OT loss - 2 (3rd and 3rd)
BO - OT loss - 1 (2nd)
WI - loss - 2 (1st and 1st)
ED - loss - 3 (1st, 1st and 2nd)
VA - loss - 0
WI - loss - 2 (1st and 2nd)

In the last 5 losses - none in the third playing catch-up, only 3 after the 1st.

Pretty good starts, pretty bad closes. Perhaps they can take advantage of opponents starting out slow, then can’t keep up when the other team gets it together. Or - they only have so much energy and focus, which gets dissipated after a 10 minute or so stretch.

They did keep it together against Calgary - their doing, or the Flames disinterest?

I'm not sure if there is a really clear picture - as a large part of it ends up being how Colliton uses his resources.

I don't know that you ever put Carpenter with Kane ... ever.

I don't know that you take a natural centre and play him at wing ... then play him at wing on the line with another up and coming centre. Particularly when that centre now playing wing, had some success at centre - that's just basically ditching the entire idea of developing centre depth ... and in favour of what? Retaining Kampf and Carpenter/Smith as centres over the guy that had some success at that position.

Sure --- why would you ever really want to try to develop 3 lines on a consistent basis and keep flip-flopping between a couple of 4th liner centres at best.

And - take Boqvist - 'performance issues' ... ?! -Really? In an 8-4 game -and an 8-4 game where the guy was a +2.

Seriously -- how horrible could it have been?

Are you seriously suggesting that a waiver wire pickup guy is going to really gong to make that point? Can you even afford to make that point?

I think he sat Highmore ... to get Nylunder back in to the lineup - for no actual reason, in that Highmore actually didn't do anything wrong ---

Otoh, and this isn't equipment related ---12 has had some awful passing spells this season - yet ... he never has any performance issues. It transcends mind-boggling.

just put me down for wanting some actual NHL experience, as the Alpo Mark II experiment has worked out about the same as the first time.

- SC116

On April 5 the final standings will likely have the Hawks last in the Central Div. Arguably the team has received goaltending that is in the top 25% of the league, so that isn't the issue. So what is the problem and where does the blame lie - coaching staff, management or player personnel? Seems to me it's all of the above and it isn't getting fixed by just firing JC.

Veteran coaches Babcock, Boudreau, Gallant, Deboer, Laviolette, Hines have all been axed this year. Are their old teams really playing dramatically better under a new guy? Not many of them.

Where the Hawks are doesn't surprise me - dressing 19 year olds every night to play against men doesn't usually turn out well. Playing guys like Gus, Kampf, Smith, Carpenter every night demonstrates how far below contending status their roster is.
So when players like Debrincat, Nylander and Strome come up with disappointing seasons, forget the playoffs and don't blame it all on coaching.

What I don't like about this team is how poorly they play on home ice (coach and player blame) and the lack of size and grit on the roster (Bowman).

It isn't a quick fix that is accomplished by a couple of firings.

JC loves Kampf, he'll be a regular forward next season. I do expect higher than normal turnover, by the time next season starts they'll be several guys gone:

Toews - stays
Kane - stays
DeBrincat - stays
Strome - dealt at the draft
Saad - dealt at the draft
Caggiula - dealt in the summer
Kampf - stays
Carpenter - stays
Dach - stays
Smith - bought out
Highmore - dealt in the summer
Kubalik - re-signed
Nylander - stays
Boqvist - dealt in the summer
de Haan - stays
Gus - dealt at the deadline
Keith - stays
Maatta - dealt in the summer
Seabrook - stays
Seeler - AHL bound
Lehner - dealt in June
Crawford - re-signed

Absolutely! Rebuilds don't happen overnight.

When they are ready to go a few levels up, then it's time to re-examine whether JC is the right coach for that job.

No one is suggesting that firing the Coach & Stan solves the problems of this version of the Hawks.

That said - if the rebuild is on a lot of people would now prefer a new GM with a
new direction & a different voice behind the bench.

Include me in that camp.

I would be in the "keep Bowman" camp. (I think McD and Rocky are too.) I am neutral on Colliton. He has not had the horses to compete so it is hard to judge. Bowman has improved the roster since Q was axed. (If you do not think so look at the roster the game before he was fired.) I would not mind seeing him being replaced by Gallant. But I would be ok with letting him at least start next season. It should be interesting to see how Bowman retools the roster at the TD, the draft and in the summer.
