$7x5 is fair for both sides, $6 is five year old money.
- rpeters01

What has lehner done for him to deserve 7 to 8 million? He was just ok with Ottawa and buffalo granted those teams were not good but goalie in the end has to be your best player imo. Second he has a very good year with the islanders and gets himself right, good for him i commend on that, and then doesn't get resign comes to chicago is very good but not of lately. If some team wants to pay 7 million or more to slightly above average goalie go ahead. Plus if the would sign him to that money say goodbye to strome and kubalik. I think imo 6 million for 4 years is fair deal.

I say we give him a minute. Boqvist and Dach, too.

By “minute” you mean demotion to Rockford, right?

TSN reporting he’s been traded to Tampa Bay. Meanwhile... Stan is still sleeping.

You either want him or you don't... That's fine if you're bidding against yourself. Time will tell he obviously didn't have much interest last year.
- rpeters01

Another question might be asked is why was there little interest in lehner last offseason is there red flags with him maybe as fans we don't know.

Yes there are red flags, that’s why he will not get term and shouldn’t. I hope he goes on to live a clean life, I really do, but unfortunately that disease comes with consequences, and one of them is not getting a long term contract, that’s just reality.

Agree, especially being a #1 goaltender (which he has only been a 1a/b with the Hawks and the Isles). He hasn’t proved he can handle playing 60 games as the main goaltender. Nobody is going to pay him $7 mil. If they don’t think he is not going to play 55-65 games a year.

I doesn’t have to be a reality. If a team does their research and are comfortable he’s recovered then there’s no reason not to provide a long term offer.

As great as Lehner has been he doesn’t have a history of performing at a high level, that’s the deterrent for a long term contract.

At Lehner’s age I’d be ok with a 4-5 year deal if the cap hit was reasonable.

Boqvist is a healthy scratch tonight and Seeler draws in. Another failed draft pick by Bowman. When a waiver claim plays over the team’s #1 prospect on defense it’s time to fire everyone. Can we expect to see Boqvist dealt at the deadline or will Stan be too stubborn to admit his mistake?
- DarthKane

100% dumb. JC's handling of the roster is comedy. He just needs to go. And you are dead on. Stan will do nothing about JC if this team fails to make the playoffs again this year. The axe needs to swing from above Stan and with some hope, relieves both the GM and the HC of their duties.

How bout Chelios as the GM and Lavi as the new HC? lol why not.

Lehner at 4yrs/6mil per, is very fair. Then Crawford at 2yrs/2mil per...We save 3 million per year on Goaltending and we use it to sign Kubalik. If cap goes up by at least 2 mil, we resign/extend Saad. We dump someone (hello Zach Smith) and sign Strome. And now, the question is, what do we do with Gus ??

I don't see both Crawford and Lehner back next season, as nice as that would be.

My guess is that Lehner is gone and Crawford is re-signed for 2 years at $3 million per.

Do you try and move 40 at the deadline?

I don’t get all the hand wringing about sitting a 19 yr old after a bad game. Let him take a game and watch to see how/where he can improve. It sounds like the entire staff gets involved in pointing out how/where players can improve when they are taken out. It’s not that big of a deal. We are likely not making the PO this year. Let the newbies learn/grow.

I try to re-sign him, but if becomes clear he can'r be re-signed by June 30th then I would deal him now.

Why not just give the GM job to someone on this board who has played hockey?

For some reason, I think he will be a deadline trade. Bring CC back at a reasonable deal and bring Lankinen up. Allow him to get his feet wet. I'm sure 40 could bring back a nice return for playoff team in need of goaltender help.

Fair enough. I don’t agree with some of his moves either. I was just wondering specifically why people were mad about sitting Boq likely for one game.

Point being? What exactly. Kind of a trend to have former players move in to those type of roles. I would like a GM who has the actual hockey background and not an accountant who got the job because of his dad. The team needs REAL change and not simply at the roster level.

Darth, you never fully recover, that “you never know” will always be there, I don’t know that personally, but I’ve been close enough to somebody that has been there, it will always be a constant battle.

A lot of us didn't understand a bunch of Q's moves, too.

Sometimes the people making the decisions have access to information not available to Hockeybuzz writers and posters.

What's an actual hockey background? Played? How high a level? Stan never played but grew up around hockey. The Hawks won a couple Cups with him at the helm.

Dean Lombardi played no higher than Div II hockey in college and is the son in law of Pully...also won a couple Cups.

Feels dirty rooting for the blues tonight but if we want our playoff hopes stay alive they gotta pull it off.
