That would be more of an off-season move, not sure these type of moves happen at TDL, but we’ll see. The return on a Strome trade would be very interesting, and without a new contract announced by end of season, a Strome trade could very well be a likely scenario.

Like Joki. I had the same feeling about Joki last season. There are more signs with Strome. Taking him off the 1st PP. The move to wing. The scratch. His usage has been all over the map this season. If we are being honest, there have been far too many games were he was invisible during the game.

Here is my problem. From year to year you can throw a whale net, yeah yeah, around goalies who can win enough games to make the playoffs. Lehner falls in that group.
The Islanders sure haven't suffered from letting him go.

The Hawks can't keep pissing away forwards they find virtually for free in the Euro market. I am aware Kubalik was acquired for a 5th but given the success rate of 5th round picks, he may as well been free.

There is no one to replace Kubalik in the system.

- Elbows15

While my preference would be to keep Lehner, I acknowledge it’s not the only way to go. If Stan doesn’t give up assets to make room for Lehner he’ll likely have to give up assets to acquire a #1. The UFA market doesn’t inspire much confidence. I’d stay far away from Holtby, Markstrom could be ok on a shorter term deal.

I think it’s too early to give up on Strome.

It would be even more interesting if we also included DeBrincat.

Those 2 packaged together would be very enticing for other contenders.

Strome had a BAD concussion. That alone explains a lot. It’s why he’s not board battling and hanging back. That hurts the game he had been developing.

Also explains why the team needs to get tougher. Drake, Strome and Shaw all down with concussions this year. Anyone who says the physical part of the game is disappearing and therefore not as important is very wrong.

We don’t need to get tougher.

We need more speed and skill.

Or it could be the right time. I wouldn't move him just to move him but if someone wanted him bad enough to give up a 1st, I would have think about it.

Boston and Tampa are two of the smaller teams in the league. They need more good players whatever size they come in.

The Devils just traded Andy Greene to the Islanders for David Quenneville and a 2nd. I think this is the type of return we can expect for Gus.

Sure, if a team is willing to overpay for Strome then go for it. But the same can be said about any player.

Agree that I wouldn’t move Strome just to move him. The Hawks needs to improve their depth and he is a solid top 9 forward. I’d expect a short term term for Strome, but an Alex Tuch type of deal wouldn’t surprise me either.

Stan will screw up the timing of any deals for Gus or Lehner, that’s a guarantee.

I don’t know what the market would be for Lehner, as Ty pointed out in a previously blog there haven’t been too many goalies of Lehner’s caliber traded at the deadline.

If Stan got a 3rd for Darling he should be able to get a 2nd for Lehner. Not great, but better than letting him walk for nothing.

I expect Gus to go, but not until deadline day. I’d guess something like a 2nd round pick and a B or C prospect.

- DarthKane

A "B" or "C" prospect is a waste. Not either going to play one day for us or will not be very good. Accept as high as draft choice as possible. . If Gus can be part of a larger trade, that could be another 2ay to dispose of him.

I agree, it's too early to give up on any of these kids. It's not like we are any good, if we have calls go against us we can't overcome them so imho you get rid of any FA before the trade deadline for something of value, prior to the 24th is the best deal you are going to get then any other time of the year.

Everyone is so worried about next year, guess what we are going to be a middling team until our young blue line and young forwards become men in this league

He was just an example of a young goalie that could be traded.

This wouldn’t be a move that I want, but I expect Saad will be dealt. He’s got only 1 year left and his NTC kicks in July 1. I can see him being dealt in late June. Saad will want UFA money on his next deal and I’m not sure the Hawks will have room for him. There are no big salaries come off the books that summer to make room for Saad either.

Edit: to be clear I am not suggesting or advocating a Saad trade. I want him to stay long term but I think he’ll be dealt.

You are right to a certain extent, however Lehner can be moved anytime and I’m certain that there’s a trading partner out there, it just depends on return. Don’t you think that Carolina would take him for one of their goalies and a fourth, they would do that in a heartbeat, not saying the Hawks would.
- Angotti

ok..now we have something to talk about...yes canes would make that deal but would the hawks? the way i am reading the public statement and the hawks current standing status...i think stanbow wants to stand pat and assess his team and the goalie thing after the season...now if the hawks go onto to lose 3 or 4 strt and drop 10 points out then his assessment timing might change.

there is another elephant on the ice with lehner: his long term mental health. Bipolar is not cured like a broken leg...controlled with medication...yes. But he is at risk for bipolar mediated setbacks...thats' not a knock on him personally...simply the way it is.

Also canes got burned on darling...do you think they are going to give lehner 6 plus years...i doubt it and i don't think any team will including the hawks...

If I am a GM then my add at trade deadline is not DeBrincat. He had not the pedigree to help this season. He is an investment whom pans out as a valuable piece in future seasons should he re-gain his form from last season. Trading a young so far sturdy DeBrincat now while at his lowest value is to give up on a player whom reasonable expectation is to return to his previous 40 goal input in the lineup. Which is attractive enough for myself to wait on him to re- emerge. I cannot accurately predict how long it might take for DeBrincat to become the player we previously liked. Does only one summer of training take him from the fictional muscular incredible hulk (which he sort of bulked up to become this season) to the lighter Toews - like player.

i suspect you might be right...no way the hawks give him 7-8mil per for at least 4 years in his next contract...

I personally take the Tragically Hip over both and I love the Who. Different era, I know.

You know how Ebony's DC5 comment negated all his future and previous posts. This is your ER/DC5 moment.

Also, the Cars far> as far as Boston bands go...Aerosmith too and I'm really not a big Aerosmith fan. I know that wasn't your pick (Boston) but someone else's.

I would be thrilled with a 2nd for Gus. The Hawks don't one in this draft. I haven't begun my deep dive into the draft yet but from what I can recall, there is some quality in the first two round and into the 3rd.

Except I never said the Hip were better than the Who. I said they were my personal favorite.

It is a tall difference.
