From Justin Bourne in ‘The Athletic’.

Todd McLellan is doing his job in LA (much like D.J. Smith in Ottawa). Both are doing pretty admirable jobs in brutal situations, with their respective seasons having been over for a long time now in terms of playoff hopes. The Kings can’t score or get saves, but by underlying analytics, they’ve actually been a competitive team. They’re regularly on the right side of shot attempt and quality data at 5-on-5. But when you can’t finish or get saves (which also kills your special teams numbers), you’re gonna lose. A lot. All the coach can do, though, is get the team playing well and put them in positions to have success. He’s done that.

Can we say the same about JC?

How many teams have fired your boy Todd?

For the love if god, why is Carpenter centering Kane & Saad, instead of Dach?

77, 88 & 20 were extremely dynamic in the game they were together. Dominant numbers.

IDK, but they got 8 goals, eh?

But he has NHL experience, don’t matter how that experience turned out.

Well needed that one . Thought Lehner had a good 3rd period . That Dach kid is great to watch continue to progress ,hard work on the DBC goal . Good game all around . Need big win tomorrow

A win tomorrow gets them nothing. They need losses, Chief.

Subtract Price, Bobo, Fleury & Rask and most of the rest are "approx" $6M. Lehner can take a hike if he wants $8M.
- RickJ

I would agree that 5x$7 would not be a discount and a nice term for him at his age plus considering what he was offered last year and what he has shown this year both sides should get it done if they want to stay together. Otherwise, it's time to dump him for the 2nd rounder we might be able to get? I would not go to $8 either but $6 is five year old money.

Elliott is just speculating on that about Lehner. Its the same media nonsense as Gus being well off his stats this year because he is 'thinking' about his contract expiring.
- RickJ

I think Elliot has a little more inside info then most , he said they are not close then I would tend to believe him over others . And Lehner speaking about his contract in Toronto were he knows it will be a headline story that he not taking a hometown discount . As they say were there is smoke there fire . I give him 7 over 5 if that would ease his mind . He had a good 3rd ,but still looks a little off to me .

Colorado might be calling, Grubauer got hurt
- LAHawk

If Colorado wants Lehner, I want Alex Newhook and a 2nd round pick.

I have always liked Saad & been one of the few to defend him, but he seems like a different player since coming back from injury. Finishing for a change. Hope the trend continues.

Nice to see a victory. They were due for a big scoring burst of goals. Of course the Canada trip didn't go as expected, but wins are wins. I can't ever root against my team. Let the chips fall where they may as far as lottery goes.

They lost Kadri long term. Doubt they are giving up another center. Maybe Bowers/Kaut and a conditional 1st.

What’s funny is even though you’re being sarcastic, you’re actually 100% correct.

He has always played well when paired with Kane. So not really a surprise.

No. But so many were infatuated with Byram last summer. You are on the Caufield train though

Dear Calgary GM whoever you are,

First let me compliment you on a heretofore successful season that finds you currently in a playoff position ... and with that goaltending.

Which brings me to how much are you willing to give me for Lehner 50% retained? We'll accept either of your current goalies if you must to make your cap work. If I may be so bold - it's your unconditional 2020 1st pick plus a little seasoning one way or another. Call me baby, you know where to find me.

Stanley.

p.s. don't call during nap time.

My life doesn’t change if somebody here points left or right either, frankly not really interested in anything here except hockey, and maybe music or movie talk when it gets boring. Everybody has a political view, not really interested in Elbows or say Doh’s political view, I want to know what they think about the Hawks, and sometimes I agree and sometimes I don’t, and sometimes I crack up...

.

Uncle Dale has no cap space.

- LAHawk

Cue the "Dale is the greatest GM in history and current and all other regimes pale in comparison"

How long has he been in FL now, and how many playoff games (yes games not series) have they won?

Thats what I call a lengthy rebuild.

Goalies

My preference is to trade Crawford on the 24th & sign Lehner long term.

If nothing else it’s a start.

It actually struck me, what if Tallon would of stayed? We complain about the contracts Stan gave Seabs., crow, Toews, Kane, Bickel, etc. His signing of Matheson to an 8x$4.875 is as bad as Stan giving Seabs his deal. At least Seabs was good when that contract was signed. Q loves Matheson so much, they are playing him at wing.

Depends on what a Lehner wants. 8 years $8 mil. Is a no go by me both term and dollars.

How about having Bobo signed for 6 more years at $10M per and then using his first round pick last year to take Spencer Knight?

He's just fortunate that he has Barkov and Huberdeau signed for a few years at $5.9M. And Keith Yandle is making more than both of them.

It isnt going to end well in Miami for Dale.
