Anthony Travalgia: What’s next for David Pastrnak? David Pastrnak has hit the 40-goal mark for the first time in his career. So what's next?

Hard to bet against OV.]

Still.....Matthews, Pastrnak and OV are ALL elite goal scorers. The best 3 in the league at releasing that hard accurate shot.

My money is on OV to win the Rocket. BUT....any of the 3 could certainly do it.

Outside of goal-scoring. I might also add I love the way Pastrnak doesn't shy away from the tough areas and doesn't mind mixing it up a bit. He doesn't hit like OV (few do...), but he initiates contact a fair bit. Moreso than Matthews for sure.

3 great goal-scorers...all slightly different. You guys are lucky to have him!!!

My son is a huge bruins fan...so I watch a lot of bruins hockey.
(he's still not over last year)

anyhow...I'd say the contract, the man, the total statistical out put....and the hands. Are better than Ovie.

The hands. How many goals does he take out of the air or weird angles or to even know that Marchand would make that pass last night.

That's another thing. The chemistry between him and March and Berg. Similar to the chemistry between ovie and the swede. It's crucial.

Alfie Spezza Heatly...huge chemistry equals huge results.

Agreed, hands down Pasta is the best "value" in the league.

Strong take. Chemistry is prudent, more so for pairs. It's isn't often that all 3 guys gel like our #1 line does.

Anyone who follows the Bruins (like them or not) has known for a while that Pasta is a legit scoring threat. He's just removing any lingering doubts and getting his name a little more widely known now. Securing a Rocket trophy will help cement his reputation as a sniper. I'd root for him over Ovi any day. I used to really like Ovi, but all his Putin-love has turned me off.

Bergy, MacKinnon and Coots round out the top 5.

If Pastrnak can consistently score 50+ goals a season, we are looking at about 10 more years before we see a then 34-year old Pastrnak flirt with 700 goals.

Guy has not even hit it once and you’re projecting 10 years and 700 goals?? Comparing him to the greatest scorer OV??

Pretty sure OV has < 894 goals, so let's wait until he passes that mark before labeling him "greatest scorer".

Considering the strength of goal tending the case can be made that Ovi is already the greatest scorer ever. It will be very interesting to see if he can catch Wayne.

You can't compare directly across generations - too many differences.
What you can look at is how each top player fares when compared to his peers.
Why was Wayne so far ahead of his peers - who faced the same quality of goaltending he did.

Wayne changed hockey.

I mean look at how ridiculous Waynes Stats were in his first ten years of the league. He was on another planet.... Then look at the goalie pads they were wearing in the 80s. I am not saying Wayne isnt the greatest ever because he is but Ovechkin would get my vote for the greatest pure goal scorer ever.

It will be an incredible feat if Ovi catches Wayne.

I'd say that Wayne was better than Ovi, and he played in a much rougher league. That said, he didnt really change the game, Orr changed the game in the sense that defenseman didnt try to score before him. Gretz just out skilled everyone in a way that no one has seen since.

Chara got away with one when he cross checked Gallagher's neck. What would have happened if someone did it to Pasternak? Probably a 10 game suspension. NHL can really be bush league at times and this one of them.
